To set your Hearthstone in World of Warcraft: Forever, talk to an innkeeper, choose Make this inn your home, and click Accept when the game asks whether you want to make that town your new home. From then on, using the Hearthstone in your bags takes you back to that inn, with a one-hour cooldown between uses.
We set ours at the inn in Dolanaar, the first town in Teldrassil, on our Night Elf Hunter, then used the stone later the same session to get back there from Darnassus. Every step below is what the screen showed us.
We recorded ourselves setting our Hearthstone on PC for the video at the end of this guide. The screenshots in this guide come from the same recording.
How to Set Your Hearthstone
- Find the inn. In Dolanaar, Innkeeper Keldamyr runs it, at about 55.7, 59.8 on the Teldrassil map. In a city, ask a guard: the Darnassus Sentinels’ list of directions includes The Inn.
-
Talk to the innkeeper. Keldamyr opened with three options: “I want to browse your goods,” “What can I do at an inn?” and “Make this inn your home.”

-
Choose Make this inn your home.
-
Click Accept. A box asks “Do you want to make Dolanaar your new home?” with Accept and Cancel buttons. The town in the question changes with the inn you are in, so read it before you accept.

-
Check the chat. Ours said “Dolanaar is now your home.”
That is all it takes. To check where your stone points at any time, hover over it in your bags: the tooltip names the town.
How to Use Your Hearthstone
The Hearthstone is in your backpack. Its tooltip reads Soulbound and Unique, then “Use: Returns you to Dolanaar. Speak to an Innkeeper in a different place to change your home location. (1 Hr Cooldown),” with your own town in place of Dolanaar.
- Open your bags and find the Hearthstone. You can also drag it onto an action bar so it is one key away.
- Right-click it. A cast bar labeled Hearthstone starts filling.
- Wait out the cast. When it finishes you get a loading screen, then arrive at your inn.
We used ours straight from the backpack beside a lake in Darnassus. After the cast and a loading screen, we were standing in the Dolanaar inn right beside Innkeeper Keldamyr, with “Teldrassil, Dolanaar” across the screen.

The One-Hour Cooldown
The tooltip gives the Hearthstone a one-hour cooldown, so it is a once-an-hour trip home, not a teleport you can spam. Use it when the walk back would be long: after finishing a far-off quest, or when your bags are full and the nearest vendor is your home town. If you hearth and then need to leave again right away, you are walking or catching a ride.
Where to Set Your Hearthstone
Set it in the town you will keep coming back to, usually the main town of the zone you are questing in, and move it when you move zones. Changing it is the same steps at a different innkeeper: the tooltip says to speak to an innkeeper in a different place.
Dolanaar is a good example of why. Besides the inn, the town has Zarrin the cook and Nyoma’s Cooking Supplies, both in our cooking guide, a General Supplies vendor and Narret Shadowgrove’s Trade Supplies, who sells the basic pole from our fishing pole guide. Lyreena Duskblade’s camp sits just outside town, and our campfire guide covers her quests. Hearthing back there brings you to all of it at once.
For longer trips the stone works alongside your other travel: our mount guide covers when you can ride and what it costs. Every Forever guide we have is on our World of Warcraft hub.
