You get the Cozy Sleeping Bag in World of Warcraft: Forever from a six-quest chain you can start at level 14. Alliance characters start it at the Alexston Farmstead in Westfall and Horde characters at a burned-out tower in the southern Barrens, and from there both factions follow the same route through Stonetalon Mountains, Loch Modan and Thoradin’s Wall, between the Hillsbrad Foothills and the Arathi Highlands, where the bag is the final reward.
The bag is a reusable item that came over from Season of Discovery. Lying on it gives you a small experience bonus that builds up minute by minute, and it counts as resting. Below is every stop on the route for both factions, what the chain pays, how the bag works once you have it, and our take on whether it is worth the trip. Coordinates and quest names are as of November 7, three days after launch.
Before You Start
- Be level 14. None of the quests in the chain will start before then.
- Plan for both continents. The chain moves between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, so you cross the sea at least twice. Horde zeppelins to the Eastern Kingdoms leave from the towers outside Orgrimmar’s main gate, as our guide to getting from Orgrimmar to Thunder Bluff explains.
- Bring Cooking. The Stonetalon stop hands you the tools for a campfire, and a cook can use them right away. Our guide to how to cook explains how to learn it in a minute at any trainer.
- Collect books on the way. You pass through a lot of zones, so pick up any library books you see. Our guide to where to turn in books covers what they are for.
Step 1: The Note (Faction Start)
The first quest, …and that note you found, starts in one faction’s territory and ends in the other’s.
| Faction | Start | Turn in |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | The Burned-Out Remains at the Alexston Farmstead, Westfall, around 37.5, 50.6 | The Burned-Out Remains at the ruined tower, southern Barrens, around 46.4, 73.9 |
| Horde | The Burned-Out Remains at the ruined tower, southern Barrens, around 46.4, 73.9 | The Burned-Out Remains at the Alexston Farmstead, Westfall, around 37.5, 50.6 |
Both ends are clickable objects with the same name, so look for the burned remains rather than a quest giver. Turning it in starts Stepping Stones, and from here on the route is the same for both factions.
Step 2: Stonetalon Mountains
- Find the hidden camp. Head to the hills near Sun Rock Retreat and look for a narrow path that climbs into them, starting around 50.9, 52.4. It leads west to a small camp around 40.7, 53.2.
- Click the Pocket Litter next to the tent to turn in Stepping Stones. The rewards include Flint and Tinder and three Simple Wood, the tool and the material for a campfire.
- Optional: Rekindle. The camp’s firepit offers a short side quest. Use the Flint and Tinder and Simple Wood you just got to light it. The sleeping bag does not need it.
- Start Scramble from the same Pocket Litter and walk north to a Mound of Dirt in the hillside, around 39.6, 49.8. Turning it in pays some Student Fodder and starts Wet Job.
Step 3: Loch Modan
Travel to the Stonewrought Dam at the north end of Loch Modan. Around 49.4, 12.8, face north and drop from the top of the dam onto the ledge below, then click the Carved Figurine there. That completes Wet Job and starts Eagle’s Fist.
Horde players have the hardest leg here: Loch Modan is Alliance territory, the dam has Alliance guards, and the trip from Kalimdor is long. Approach from the side, drop to the ledge quickly and plan for a corpse run if a guard catches you.
Step 4: Thoradin’s Wall
- Go to Thoradin’s Wall, the great wall between the Hillsbrad Foothills and the Arathi Highlands. Start on the Hillsbrad side, around 87.5, 49.8 on the Hillsbrad map.
- Climb the cart leaning against the wall and jump up onto the top of it.
- Walk along the top of the wall to a platform with a Messenger Bag hanging on it, around 22.5, 24.2 on the Arathi Highlands map. Click it to complete Eagle’s Fist and start This Must Be the Place.
- Click the Hastily Rolled-Up Satchel lying under the bag to finish the chain. The reward is the Cozy Sleeping Bag and more Student Fodder.
How the Cozy Sleeping Bag Works
- Use the bag from your inventory to roll it out on the ground.
- Stand on it and stay still until your character lies down.
- Stay down. Every minute you lie on it adds 1% experience gain, up to three stacks, so three minutes gets you the full 3%.
- Wait out the cooldown. The bag has a one-hour cooldown, so get all three stacks before you leave it behind.
Lying in the bag also counts as resting, so it builds rested experience the way an inn does. It pairs naturally with a campsite: Blizzard says anyone who sits at a camp for a minute picks up the buffs from its camp features, and the deep dive panel recap adds that crafted food in Forever “can grant a small experience bonus.” Our guide to how camping works lists every feature, and our guide to sitting by the campfire covers the poses that count.
The Student Fodder from the chain is worth keeping too. It no longer gives the bonus experience it gave in Season of Discovery, but it heals you and restores part of your class resource, which makes it a handy emergency item.
Is the Sleeping Bag Worth It?
For a character you plan to level, yes. Three percent is a small bonus, but the bag is reusable for the rest of your leveling, and the chain pays its own way: a good chunk of quest experience, a stack of Student Fodder, and everything a cook needs for a first campfire.
The cost is travel. Alliance players cross to Kalimdor for the Barrens and Stonetalon, then back; Horde players cross to the Eastern Kingdoms twice, for Westfall and then for Loch Modan and Thoradin’s Wall. If you are already heading to Stonetalon or Hillsbrad for quests, fold the chain into that trip. If you only play one character and level mostly in groups, it is a nice extra rather than a must. If you are still choosing who to level, our best class for new players guide can help. Every other guide we have is on our World of Warcraft hub.
