You buy Simple Wood in World of Warcraft: Forever from vendors: general goods, trade supplies, cooking supplies and enchanting supplies merchants sell it in nearly every starting area, town and capital for about 38 copper a piece, with unlimited stock. It is a vendor item, so there are no trees to chop or mobs to farm for it.
Simple Wood is the material for the Basic Campfire, the fire that starts Forever’s Camping system, and several professions use it for their camp features too. Below are the vendors that sell it by zone, the quest that gives you a free stack, and every recipe that needs it. Vendor lists and prices are as of November 7, three days after launch.

It costs about 38 copper at most of them and a few copper less at some. Nyoma, the Cooking Supplies vendor in Dolanaar, sold us ours for exactly 38 copper. If you cannot find the right shop, a city guard will give you directions.
An Engineer’s Reagent Bot sells it too. Blizzard lists the Reagent Bot as the Engineering camp feature that “lets you buy reagents at the camp,” so a campsite with one can restock your wood on the road.
The Free Simple Wood From a Quest
The Cozy Sleeping Bag chain gives you three. Its Stepping Stones quest ends at a hidden camp in Stonetalon Mountains and rewards three Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder, enough for a campfire on the spot. The chain starts at level 14; our guide to getting the sleeping bag has the whole route.
What Simple Wood Is Used For
The big one is the campfire. Blizzard’s Gather Around the Campfire post puts the Basic Campfire at Cooking skill 1, and its recipe takes one Simple Wood, with Flint and Tinder as the tool. Our guide to where to get Flint and Tinder walks through making the fire step by step.
Several other professions use Simple Wood for their camp features and tools:
| Recipe | Profession | Simple Wood |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Campfire | Cooking | 1 |
| Camp Chair | Skinning | 2 |
| Trapper’s Workbench | Skinning | 2 |
| Enchanted Lute | Enchanting | 1 |
| Lesser Magic Wand and Greater Magic Wand | Enchanting | 1 each |
| Fishing Rack | Fishing | 2 |
| Fishing Hut | Fishing | 5 |
| Greenhouse | Herbalism | 2 |
| Tanning Rack | Leatherworking | 2 |
| Toxin Study | First Aid | 2 |
| Plague Doctor’s Laboratory | First Aid | 2 |
| Spinning Wheel | Tailoring | 2 |
| Loom | Tailoring | 4 |
Most of those recipes need other materials as well; check the tooltip in your Professions window (press K) for the full list.
The two higher campfires do not use Simple Wood. The Journeyman Campfire takes Star Wood and the Expert Campfire takes Thick Logs, and both hold more camp features: Blizzard says cooks “can eventually learn upgraded Campfires that allow five or even 10 objects to be placed at a camp.”
How Much to Buy
- A cook on the road: about 10. Each Basic Campfire Kit takes one, and a stack this size covers a long leveling session.
- An enchanter: a few extra for the wands and the Enchanted Lute.
- A skinner or tailor: two to four per camp feature you plan to make, checked against the recipe.
It stacks, so a handful takes one bag slot, and at about 38 copper each it is never worth running back to town for one. Blizzard’s Legacy system overview adds that the Reagent Economy perk makes tier 1 camping features “require no materials to craft,” which cuts down how much material you carry once you have it.
Where It Fits in Camping
A campfire is only the start. Blizzard says each Basic Campfire takes up to three camp features from nearby players, and that anyone who sits or crafts there for at least a minute gets their benefits, most of them one-hour buffs. Our guide to how camping works lists every profession’s feature and buff, our guide to sitting by the campfire covers the sit that triggers them, and our guide to how to cook covers learning Cooking.
