The best Hogwarts Legacy mods in 2026 fix the game’s stutter, cut its busywork, add new spells and give the castle a real daily life, and the 30 below are the most loved of them, grouped by what they change. Hogwarts Legacy now has two ways to mod it on PC. Since the free update of January 30, 2025, Warner Bros. Games has run an official mod system powered by CurseForge: you browse and install from Play Mods on the main menu, creators build with the free Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit, and every listing is reviewed before it goes live. The second route is Nexus Mods, where the older community tools live, installed by hand (mostly into the Phoenix\Content\Paks\~mods folder) or with a mod manager. We checked every entry against its creator’s own page on September 21, 2026. “Current version” here means the PC build from the December 3, 2025 hotfix (1613387 on Steam and Epic), the most recent patch.
A few facts decide which route you use. Per Warner Bros. Games’ own support FAQ, official mods work only on the Steam and Epic versions, need a Warner Bros. Games account linked to your store account, can only be installed through the in-game browser, and apply to a separate “Mod Enabled” save on which achievements are disabled. The January 2025 update also broke many older Nexus mods, especially ones that edit the game’s database, and several big authors moved their work to the official system, so every CurseForge link below installs from the in-game menu. Consoles get no mods at all.
Essentials, Fixes and Performance
1. Ultra Plus
Ultra+ is the performance and visuals overhaul most PC players reach for first. It tunes the Unreal Engine settings behind the game’s stutter, reworks ray tracing and its cost, and adds color grading presets, with quality presets from low to epic so it scales to weaker machines. Its authors say updates land first through their own Ultra+ Manager, and warn against stacking other Engine.ini tweaks on top. It was last updated in March 2026. 2. LSF – Redux
LSF – Redux is the long-running alternative for players who want smoother performance without Ultra+’s visual changes. It adjusts asynchronous loading, multi-core rendering, streaming and memory settings to cut loading times and hitches while moving around the castle and Hogsmeade, and adds less blurry anti-aliasing and binaural audio. It was updated to version 4.0 in June 2026. Pick one of this or Ultra+, since both rewrite the same engine settings. Creator: Riesi and xowny. Download: LSF – Redux on Nexus Mods.
3. RE-UE4SS
UE4SS is the Lua scripting system and blueprint mod loader that many of the more ambitious Nexus mods are built on, including AUTOHOMORA further down. This Nexus page is a mirror of the project’s GitHub releases, set up for Hogwarts Legacy, and it installs into the game’s Phoenix\Binaries\Win64 folder. If a mod crashes on startup, its page asks for the UE4SS log from that folder. Some mods ask for the newer experimental build instead, so check each mod’s requirements. Creator: UE4SS team. 4. Hogwarts Mod Merger
Hogwarts Mod Merger is the tool that keeps database mods working together. Many spell, gear and vendor mods edit the same game database file, so only one would load; this utility merges them into a single file. Its page notes that every game update that touches that file makes those mods outdated, and version 0.15 added support for the January 2025 update plus a game version selector, so it can also patch older mods. 5. Percival Rackham Trial Bug Fix
This fix targets the game-breaking bug (official bug number HL-12745) that stops the Percival Rackham trial from progressing, usually at the pensieve cutscene. Version 6 rolls all of its earlier fixes into one and, per its page, addresses all 14 known variants of the bug. It won Nexus Mod of the Month in May 2023, was updated in December 2025, and its author says it is also available in the official in-game mod menu. Creator: icouldifiwantedto. 6. Achievements Enabler
Because the game switches achievements off on modded saves, this small plugin passed 23,000 downloads within months of its release. It patches the checks that disable them, so you can earn achievements while playing with mods. It installs as a single file in the game’s Phoenix\Binaries\Win64 folder. 7. Character Editor
Character Editor is the single most downloaded official mod, with more than a million downloads. Press F5 at any point after reaching Hogwarts to change your name, house, dormitory, voice, face, hair, eyes and more, with changes saved live to your character. It also restores options cut from the character creator, unlocks hidden presets, and lets you rebuild your wand’s wood, core, length and flexibility. Creator: nathdev. 8. Increased Gear Capacity
Gear slots run out fast in Hogwarts Legacy, especially once you start collecting every hat and robe for appearances. Increased Gear Capacity raises the limit to 520 slots, which is why it is the second most downloaded official mod. Its page notes that uninstalling it simply returns you to the default maximum. 9. Auto Loot
Auto Loot picks up nearby loot as you walk up to it, covering enemy drops and collectibles, so fights and exploration stop being interrupted by pickup prompts. Its creator deliberately leaves chests alone, so opening a chest still feels like a reward. 10. AUTOHOMORA
The Alohomora lockpicking minigame gets old long before you have opened every door, and AUTOHOMORA finishes it automatically on any difficulty. Version 3.0 also exits the puzzle immediately after you interact with the lock, though its page warns that this can cause brief flickering during the transition. It is one of the five most endorsed Hogwarts Legacy mods on Nexus and was updated in January 2026. Creator: VTLI. Needs: UE4SS (the experimental build its page links). 11. Field Guide Page Finder
Hunting the last few of the 236 Field Guide Pages is the most tedious part of a completion run. This mod maps a path to the nearest page you have not found yet, and you can repeat it until they are all collected. PageUp finds a page, PageDown cancels the search, and the keys can be rebound. 12. Better Broom Controls
Better Broom Controls fixes the game’s awkward flying. On a controller, all movement moves to the left stick, the right stick only moves the camera, and the odd flip when you push up and down is gone, a scheme its author compares to the old Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban games. Spells and Talents is one of the most downloaded spell expansions on the official platform and one of its best maintained, updated in March 2026. It adds nine spells, including Tarantallegra, Aguamenti, Obliviate, Apparition and Morsmordre, plus 29 new talent perks, a Dark Arts progression that changes your spell animations, and items like a Portkey. 14. Spells Enhanced – New Spells
Spells Enhanced started as a Nexus favorite and was rebuilt for the official system with 20 new spells, from Stupefy, Reducto and Expulso to Episkey, Confundo and Fiendfyre, each with talent upgrades that change how it looks and works. 15. Immersive NPC Combat
Immersive NPC Combat makes named characters targetable and gives them their own health, damage and spells, so students, vendors and villagers fight back when attacked and join in when enemies show up. Beaten characters kneel for about a minute instead of dying, and centaurs become targetable. 16. Dekita Battle Pets
Dekita Battle Pets gives you a companion that follows you, fights alongside you, earns experience, levels up and learns new skills. You pick it from the Field Guide, starting with ordinary pets like cats and chickens, and magical beasts unlock as you progress through the story and rescue creatures. Warner Bros. 17. NPC Schedule Enhanced
The castle feels empty at night in the base game, and NPC Schedule Enhanced fixes that by giving named characters real routines. Students attend classes and meals in the Great Hall, retreat to their common rooms in the evening and visit Hogsmeade on weekends, professors patrol after dark, and Hogsmeade vendors open at 6:00, close at 22:00 and head home. House Point System adds the thing fans missed most: house points that actually matter. You earn and lose points through quests, spells and behavior, with around 90 daily homework quests, 40 weekly and 10 monthly tasks tied to in-game time, other students scoring points in the background, and a House Cup awarded every three months with a trophy. 19. Floo Companions
Floo Companions restores a cut feature: summoning companions at Floo Flames. Many characters can join you, and the main companions plus Ominis get extras like outfit switching and duelling. Companions fly on brooms beside you, travel with a Floo animation, and use their unique cutscene wands instead of generic ones. It is the base several other companion and outfit mods build around. 20. Immersive ModPack
Immersive ModPack combines its author’s earlier Immersive Meals, Classes, Common Rooms and Hogsmeade mods into one package with further improvements, so students fill the halls, classrooms and common rooms in a way the base game never manages. It was updated in April 2026. Its page is clear that it does not work alongside NPC Schedule Enhanced (entry 17), so choose one, and run its database file through Hogwarts Mod Merger. 21. Open Common Rooms
Open Common Rooms removes the house restriction so you can walk into every common room, not just your own. It is a simple change, but it is the only way to see the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin rooms in a single playthrough without making four characters. 22. Fly In Hogsmeade
Hogsmeade is a no-mount zone in the base game, so you have to land outside and walk in. Fly In Hogsmeade disables that zone, letting you fly straight into town on your broom or a flying mount. 23. Azkaban
Azkaban gives the Unforgivable Curses consequences. Cast one in front of civilians and they report you to the Ministry of Magic, which arrests you and sends you to Azkaban, where you escape by fighting Aurors, slipping past Dementors and winning a broom race, with each later escape harder. 24. Diagon Alley London and Knockturn Alley
This is the Diagon Alley players have wanted since launch: a new area with 15 shops to explore, plus Knockturn Alley, Gringotts, the Leaky Cauldron and a Daily Prophet lobby, themed after the films and the theme park versions. You reach it from the path below the Mooncalf Den, then walk through the Leaky Cauldron to the alley. Its creator updated it in August 2026 and suggests reinstalling if an update gives you trouble. 25. Dungeon of Doom
Dungeon of Doom is the most downloaded dungeon on the official platform: a quest through environmental puzzles and dragon fights, with three secret arenas that open after the main quest and rewards hidden behind buttons and blasted rocks. The entrance is south of Hogsmeade, beyond the bridge and down the hill. Its page labels the quest an early alpha and warns not to attack arena dragons before they target you, or progress can stall. 26. Yule Ball Great Hall
Yule Ball Great Hall is a peaceful change of pace: a new area recreating the Great Hall decorated for the Yule Ball, with snow falling from the ceiling, lighting that shifts with the in-game time and small secrets like mistletoe to find. There are no enemies; it is built for exploring and photo mode. The entrance is on the path to Poppy Clearing, and it works with Floo Companions. Creator: SilverxStardust. 27. Stand Up Straight
Your character spends much of the game in a hunched “ready for anything” pose that many players dislike, and Stand Up Straight makes them stand upright whenever possible. It is a small fix that changes how every cutscene and photo mode shot looks, which explains its more than half a million official downloads. Hogwarts Hairstyles adds new long hairstyle variants for female characters, made to match the game’s own style. You can choose them when creating a character or at any time from Madam Snelling’s Tress Emporium in Hogsmeade. 29. Dark Magic Outfits
Dark Magic Outfits adds 43 dark and blood magic themed outfits: 17 outfits and 4 coats for female characters, and 14 outfits and 2 coats for male characters. It is ideal for a Dark Arts playthrough, and it was updated in April 2026. Its page explains that outfits for the other body type show in red in your gear, and suggests a full reinstall if errors appear after a game patch. Creator: SilverxStardust. 30. Party Like It’s 1890
Party Like It’s 1890 goes the other way: lore-friendly, period-inspired clothing that makes your witch look like she belongs in 1890. It swaps short skirts for the long skirts the other girls in your year wear, puts boots on every uniform, and recolors the school robes and plaid uniform to match the NPCs, with a version that keeps the original shoes. How We Chose These Mods
Every mod here was checked against its creator’s own page on Nexus Mods or CurseForge on September 21, 2026, for three things: that it exists and is still downloadable, that it was updated for or still works with the current version of the game (the January 2025 modding update broke many older mods, and we left out ones abandoned before it), and that it is well loved, judged by downloads and endorsements. We left out adult mods and dropped one popular quest mod whose creator says it has unfixed boss bugs. Several Nexus classics, like Character Editor and NPC Schedule Enhanced, now live on the official platform, so we linked the version their creators maintain.
Only download from the creator pages linked above. Re-upload sites and bundled “mod packs” are the most common source of outdated or malicious files, and official mods can only be installed from the in-game menu anyway. If you mod other games too, see our best Sims 4 mods and best Valheim mods.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Hogwarts Legacy mods safe? Official mods are reviewed by CurseForge before they appear in the in-game menu, which makes them the safest option. For Nexus mods, download only from the creator’s page, never from re-upload sites.
Do Hogwarts Legacy mods disable achievements? Official mods do: Warner Bros. Games’ support FAQ says achievements are disabled on a Mod Enabled save. Achievements Enabler (entry 6) is a community plugin that says it restores them, confirmed by its author on Steam only.
Can you use mods on PS5, Xbox or Switch? No. Official mods are PC only, on the Steam and Epic versions, and Nexus mods are PC only too. The Witcher 3 is one of the few games with mods on console.
