The best Starfield mods in 2026 start with a stable foundation (the script extender, the Unofficial Starfield Patch and a better inventory screen) and then build out into HDR, smarter enemies, bigger crews, survival systems, new missions and whole new shipyards. These 100 Starfield mods come from Nexus Mods on PC and from Bethesda’s own Creations menu, which also works on Xbox and PS5, and they are the community’s favorites: we ranked candidates by Nexus Mods’ own endorsement and download counts and took from the top. Every pick was checked against its creator’s own page, most recently on October 21, 2026, for the current version of Starfield.
There are two ways to mod the game. On PC, most of this list comes from Nexus Mods and installs with a manager such as Vortex or Mod Organizer 2. Anything marked Needs: SFSE requires the Starfield Script Extender, which supports the Steam version only, and every Bethesda patch breaks SFSE plugins until the extender and the Address Library catch up. The second route is Bethesda’s official Creations menu, found on the game’s main menu, which works on PC, Xbox Series X|S and, per several creators’ pages, PS5 too. If you are coming over from our 100 best Sims 4 mods, the same rule applies here: install the essentials first, then add the fun stuff.
Essential Starfield Mods and Fixes

1. Starfield Script Extender (SFSE)
SFSE is the foundation for the most ambitious PC mods, adding scripting functions the base game does not expose. Once it is installed, you launch the game through sfse_loader.exe instead of the normal launcher. Its page states it supports the latest Steam release and not the Game Pass, Microsoft Store or Epic versions, and it was updated the same day as patch 1.16.244. Creator: SFSE Team. Download: Starfield Script Extender on Nexus Mods.

2. Address Library for SFSE Plugins
This is a database that lets script extender plugins find what they need in the game’s code without being rebuilt for every patch. It is the reason many SFSE mods keep working after an update once this file is refreshed, which its author did in June 2026. You install the all-in-one package and forget about it, and a long list of mods on this page will not load without it. Creator: meh321. Needs: SFSE. Download: Address Library for SFSE Plugins on Nexus Mods.

3. Unofficial Starfield Patch (USFP)
From the team behind the long-running unofficial patches for Oblivion and Skyrim, USFP fixes hundreds of quest, NPC, item, text and placement bugs Bethesda has not gotten to yet. Its page says it requires Starfield 1.16.242 or later and keeps separate changelogs for Shattered Space and Terran Armada fixes. It avoids unsafe changes like deleting stock objects, so it plays nicely with nearly everything else. Creator: The Unofficial Patch Project Team. Download: Unofficial Starfield Patch on Nexus Mods.

4. Starfield Engine Fixes
A growing collection of fixes for engine-level bugs that a normal plugin cannot touch. Its list includes the “emotionless face” bug where your character loses facial animations after fast travel, NPCs losing makeup and tattoos after a reload, and several scripting functions that return the wrong answer. It was updated again on October 4, 2026, to version 21.2, making it one of the most actively maintained mods on this list. Creator: LarannKiar. Needs: SFSE. Download: Starfield Engine Fixes on Nexus Mods.

5. Baka Achievement Enabler
Starfield switches off achievements the moment you load most Nexus mods or open the console. This plugin stops that, removes the console warning and strips the “modded” flag from your saves. It is one of the three most endorsed Starfield mods on Nexus, and it pairs with several gameplay mods below whose pages warn they may disable achievements. Creator: shad0wshayd3. Needs: SFSE and Address Library. Download: Baka Achievement Enabler on Nexus Mods.

6. Cleanfield
Cleanfield skips the seizure warning, the Bethesda logo video, the message of the day and the Starfield logo so you land on the main menu faster. It works through a few lines in your StarfieldCustom.ini, and the download includes an option that keeps the Starfield logo if you like it. The page also walks you through the loose-file INI setup that many texture and interface mods rely on. Creator: Gametism. Download: Cleanfield on Nexus Mods.

7. Starfield Community Patch (SFCP)
The Starfield Community Patch is a volunteer bug-fix project and one of the most endorsed Starfield mods, with more than 8,700 endorsements on Nexus Mods. Its page describes a collective effort by mod authors and players to fix bugs, errors and inconsistencies in the base game, including typos, and says the patch will never require payment. It also links separate install instructions for Xbox Series X|S players. Creator: Starfield Modding Community. Compatibility: its current file (1.0.0) dates from September 30, 2024, before Free Lanes and Terran Armada, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work as intended on the current version until its team updates it. Download: Starfield Community Patch on Nexus Mods.

8. Console Command Runner Updated
A long list of gameplay mods need to change a game setting every time you load a save, and this SFSE plugin is how they do it: it automatically runs console commands, listed in simple .toml files, when certain game events happen. It continues Bobbyclue’s original Console Command Runner, which has not been updated since January 2024, and its latest release (1.11.0) arrived on October 14, 2026. Most players install it because another mod asks for it. Creator: Bobbyclue and Meridiano. Needs: SFSE and Address Library. Download: Console Command Runner Updated on Nexus Mods.

9. Cassiopeia Papyrus Extender
Cassiopeia registers new native functions for Papyrus, the Creation Engine’s scripting language, which lets mod authors build scripted mods that were not possible in Starfield before. You will rarely notice it directly, but bigger mods such as Starvival (No. 66) list it as a requirement. Version 10.0 arrived on September 7, 2026. Creator: LarannKiar. Needs: SFSE. Download: Cassiopeia Papyrus Extender on Nexus Mods.

10. powerofthree’s Tweaks
This SFSE plugin bundles small fixes and optional gameplay tweaks, each switched on or off in one INI file that, per its page, builds itself and gains new settings with every update. The optional tweaks include grabbing items without setting off a theft alarm, skipping the trip to jail when you pay a fine, leaving behind books you have already read and turning off the docking sequence’s screen effect. It was updated to version 2.0.4 on October 6, 2026. Creator: powerofthree. Needs: SFSE and Address Library. Download: powerofthree’s Tweaks on Nexus Mods.

11. Disk Cache Enabler
This plugin makes Starfield use the operating system’s file cache when it reads game files, which its page says leads to less disk activity over time. It is a technical fix rather than a visible change, and it works on Steam through the script extender or on the Game Pass version through an ASI loader. Creator: Archost. Needs: SFSE (Steam) or an ASI loader (Game Pass). Compatibility: its page says it is forward compatible and does not depend on the game version, and lists its last check as Starfield 1.15.222, so as of October 21, 2026, it has not been confirmed on 1.16.244 by its creator. Download: Disk Cache Enabler on Nexus Mods.

12. Sprint Stuttering Fix
Sprinting across uneven ground in first person makes the camera twitch, and this fix removes it. Its page explains that once the player passes a certain speed, the engine stops applying its camera smoothing code, and the mod puts it back; there is a separate install path for the Xbox app version on PC. Creator: AntoniX. Needs: SFSE and Address Library on Steam. Compatibility: its latest file (1.0.6) dates from June 2025, and as of October 21, 2026, its page does not list the current version, so it may not work until its creator updates it. Download: Sprint Stuttering Fix on Nexus Mods.

13. No XP Kill Steal Fix
According to this mod’s page, the base game only gives you XP for a kill if you dealt at least 25% of the damage that enemy took, so companions and the edges of a grenade blast regularly rob you of experience. This one-setting tweak drops that threshold below 1%, so the XP for a fight you started is yours. Creator: Zzyxzz. Compatibility: its latest file (2.0.0) dates from June 2024, and as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: No XP Kill Steal Fix on Nexus Mods.

14. Skill Fixes
Several of Starfield’s skills do not do what their descriptions promise, and Skill Fixes corrects them while adding the real numbers to their tooltips. Its page lists fixes such as Armor Penetration now working with melee weapons, EM Weapon Systems scaling properly with each rank, and Leadership ranks 2 to 4 giving the full +25% companion affinity gain. Alternate files either remove skill challenges or keep only the fixes for purists. Creator: Argonil. Compatibility: its latest file (2.1) dates from October 2024, before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, it may need an update from its creator to work on the current version. Download: Skill Fixes on Nexus Mods.
Interface and Menus

15. StarUI Inventory
The most endorsed Starfield mod on Nexus rebuilds every inventory screen for mouse and keyboard play. You get a compact list, more than 40 sortable columns (mass, value, value per mass, DPS), a category sidebar and a column showing how many of an item sit in your backpack, ship and cargo. Mass-transfer buttons for whole categories make selling and stashing quick. It was last updated September 8, 2026. Creator: m8r98a4f2. Download: StarUI Inventory on Nexus Mods.

16. StarUI HUD
The companion to StarUI Inventory gives you control over nearly every HUD widget: move it, resize it, recolor it or hide it. It adds a small label under your crosshair naming what you are looking at, and a “Loot-O-Meter” bar that fills based on an item’s value per mass, so you can tell what is worth carrying at a glance. The loot list also gains sortable columns. Creator: m8r98a4f2. Download: StarUI HUD on Nexus Mods.

17. Compact Mission Menu
Starfield’s mission log fills up fast, and this mod shows about 50 percent more missions on screen at once. It also fixes mouse control bugs in the menu, tidies up the alignment and removes the vignette. Its author has a whole family of “Compact” menus (crew, crafting, build menu) if you like the look. Version 3.0.0 arrived on April 7, 2026, the day Free Lanes launched. Creator: Stentorious. Download: Compact Mission Menu on Nexus Mods.

18. Show Star Names
The galaxy map hides system names until you hover over them, which makes finding a specific system slow. This mod keeps every star’s name visible, and a hotkey toggles color-coding by system level. Font size is adjustable through an INI file, and if you play on PC with an Xbox controller, the toggles also sit on L3 and R3. Its page states version 2.3 is compatible with 1.16.236, Free Lanes and Terran Armada. Creator: FSNovask. Download: Show Star Names on Nexus Mods.

19. CharGenMenu
Starfield’s character creator is one of its best features, and this mod makes it better. It shows numeric values on every slider, shrinks the face list so more fits on screen, and lets you save, load and share presets as files. That last feature is a lifesaver when you start a new character or head into New Game Plus. The menu upgrades work on their own, but presets need the script extender. Creator: Expired6978. Needs: SFSE for presets. Download: CharGenMenu on Nexus Mods.

20. Dreaming Star
Dreaming Star replaces the main menu, main menu music, pause screens, loading screens, magazines and artifact visions with a lore-friendly custom art style. It is really a pick-and-mix set: the files section offers several main menu versions and separate optional pieces, so you install only what you like. It was last updated August 7, 2026, and its author has released further themed sets. Creator: Sklohe. Download: Dreaming Star on Nexus Mods.

21. Undelayed Menus
As of October 21, 2026, Undelayed Menus is the sixth most endorsed Starfield mod on Nexus Mods, with nearly 14,800 endorsements. It strips the slow fade effects from opening and closing menus, and its page says it also runs in-game menus at 60 frames per second instead of the default 30, which makes inventory management feel instant. Creator: Seb263. Compatibility: its last file update was in September 2025, before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work fully on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Undelayed Menus on Nexus Mods.

22. StarUI Workbench
The StarUI treatment for every workbench: a compact PC layout, sortable columns and new data such as DPS for weapons, secondary resistances for armor and how many of a food or chem you can craft. It also adds a marker for recipes you are tracking and supports the same item tag icons as StarUI Inventory. Its page says it does not affect achievements, and it was updated on September 10, 2026. Creator: m8r98a4f2. Download: StarUI Workbench on Nexus Mods.

23. Enhanced Player Healthbar
A small change you notice in every fight: your health bar changes color as it drops past 75%, 50% and 25%, so you know at a glance when to heal. Optional files offer other color schemes. Creator: SilverEzredes. Compatibility: its changelog says version 1.0.5 (August 2024) was updated for the latest game version at that time, but as of October 21, 2026, its page does not mention Free Lanes, so it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Enhanced Player Healthbar on Nexus Mods.

24. Smooth Ship Reticle
Starfield caps the spaceship HUD at 30 frames per second, so the targeting reticle looks choppy when the game runs faster. This mod lets the ship HUD run at up to 120fps, and an optional version boosts every interface element to 120fps; its page warns that a few animations built around 30fps timings may look odd. Version 2.0 arrived on April 7, 2026, the day Free Lanes launched. Creator: alexbull_uk. Download: Smooth Ship Reticle on Nexus Mods.

25. BetterHUD
BetterHUD makes the HUD less distracting by hiding elements when you do not need them, and its configurable version lets you scale, move or hide the pieces you choose and adds a fullscreen scanner. Its page warns it can conflict with other mods that edit the same HUD files and offers an experimental patch for StarUI HUD (No. 16). Creator: KhaoMaat. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: BetterHUD on Nexus Mods.

26. Enhanced Dialogue Interface
Starfield’s dialogue options sit in a cramped black box, and this mod widens and centers the text, swaps the background for a subtle text shadow and removes the delays before dialogue lines appear and close. Its page says you can also pick replies with the number keys, and every part of it is customizable. Creator: Seb263. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Enhanced Dialogue Interface on Nexus Mods.

27. IconSortingTags
IconSortingTags adds small icons in front of item names, in the world and in your inventory, so you can tell items apart at a glance and manage your inventory faster. Its page says it works with the StarUI series. Setup is more involved than most mods: the author now ships the icons and sorting rules rather than ready-made files, and you apply them to your game and other mods with xTranslator. It was updated on July 11, 2026. Creator: McGuffin. Needs: xTranslator. Download: IconSortingTags on Nexus Mods.

28. Visible Skills Descriptions
The skills menu hides what a locked skill does until you open its tree, which makes planning a build tedious. This mod shows locked skill descriptions directly, and its page says it is compatible with StarUI. Creator: TheLastPioneer. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023 and it replaces the skills menu file, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Visible Skills Descriptions on Nexus Mods.

29. Dark Mode for Terminals
Terminals and city kiosks flash bright screens in otherwise dark rooms, and this mod gives them a darker theme and a dimmer startup. Its page says the text colors were tuned for readability with HDR and against web accessibility guidelines, and it supports the Large Menu Fonts option, with 60 and 120fps versions for players using smooth interface mods. Creator: animandan. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Dark Mode for Terminals on Nexus Mods.

30. Faster Favorites Menu
The favorites wheel is how most players swap weapons and use aid items, and this mod speeds up its animation and removes the flicker. An included INI lets you make it open instantly, set the background transparency and turn on WASD controls. Creator: Stentorious. Compatibility: its latest file (2.0) dates from May 2025, before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, it may need an update from its creator to work on the current version. Download: Faster Favorites Menu on Nexus Mods.

31. Enhanced Subtitles
From the maker of Undelayed Menus, Enhanced Subtitles widens the subtitle area and drops the black background for a subtle text shadow, and its page says the whole system is customizable. It is a quiet quality of life upgrade for anyone who plays with subtitles on. Creator: Seb263. Compatibility: its latest file (1.2.1) dates from October 2024, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Enhanced Subtitles on Nexus Mods.

32. Visible Companion Affinity
Starfield never shows how your companions feel about you in numbers, and this mod puts them on screen: each like, dislike, love or hate reaction is followed by a message about your standing, and a new option under your companions’ personal questions lets you check in. Its page says it is a rebuilt version of the author’s Fallout 4 mod of the same name. Creator: CDante. Compatibility: its latest file (1.4) dates from January 2025, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work fully on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Visible Companion Affinity on Nexus Mods.
Visuals and Atmosphere

33. Neutral LUTs
Starfield puts a heavy color filter over many planets, which reads as a washed-out haze to a lot of players. Neutral LUTs swaps every color lookup table for the game’s own neutral one, which gives deeper blacks and more even colors, and its page says it covers the base game and DLC. It was last updated in October 2024 and remains one of the most endorsed visual mods. Creator: fadingsignal. Download: Neutral LUTs on Nexus Mods.

34. Luma
Starfield has no true HDR of its own; per Luma’s page, both Xbox and PC rely on the operating system’s AutoHDR. Luma rewrites the game’s post-processing to add native HDR, raises the output from 8-bit to 10-bit to cut banding, corrects the gamma and normalizes the flat-looking color tables. SDR players benefit too, with brightness, contrast and saturation sliders. It was last updated July 31, 2026. Creator: Ersh, Pumbo, Nukem, Lilium and ShortFuse. Needs: SFSE, Address Library and Starfield Shader Injector and ReShade Helper. Download: Luma on Nexus Mods.

35. Royal Weathers
Some locations in the base game only ever show one or two types of weather. Royal Weathers adds more weather variety everywhere, smoother transitions and more frequent changes, plus a rare weather add-on for icy moons in version 1.5. It is a light, low-conflict mod, and an optional companion file brings the same variety to Shattered Space’s Va’ruun’kai. Creator: JaeDL (Starborn Royalty Knights). Download: Royal Weathers on Nexus Mods.

36. Rabbit’s Real Lights: New Atlantis
New Atlantis can look dim and flat at night. This mod places more than 700 light sources by hand, fixes lamps that never switched on, and adds big floodlights to the landing pads so you can see your ship after dark. It is part of a series that also covers Akila City, Neon, Cydonia and other settlements, and its author recommends a companion INI tweaks file for the best results. Creator: RabbitDoesStuff. Download: Rabbit’s Real Lights New Atlantis on Nexus Mods.

37. Iris
Starfield spends a lot of time in close-up conversations, so the eyes matter. Iris replaces the eyes of your character and every named NPC with photorealistic, hand-made textures and reworked reflections and shading, and it offers resolution options for weaker PCs. Its page says it does not affect achievements or saves and can be installed or removed mid-playthrough. Creator: UFRI. Download: Iris on Nexus Mods.

38. Starfield Performance Optimizations
With more than 11,800 endorsements, this is one of the most endorsed Starfield mods of all. It swaps the values behind each of the game’s graphics presets for optimized ones, so Ultra becomes Ultra with optimizations and so on, and it includes a Potato Mode for weak PCs. Its page reminds you to switch between presets once after installing so the new values take effect. Creator: Erok. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, and later patches added new graphics options such as DLSS, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work as intended on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Starfield Performance Optimizations on Nexus Mods.

39. EXE: Effect Textures Enhanced
EXE remakes the game’s visual effects by hand, which its page stresses is not an AI upscale: explosions, muzzle flashes, impacts, storms, fires, gore and lasers all get sharper, more detailed textures. Its page says it is compatible with any mod that does not edit effect textures. Creator: Weijiesen (Team EVE). Compatibility: its files date from October 2023; it only replaces textures, which game patches rarely break, but as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: EXE Effect Textures Enhanced on Nexus Mods.

40. Starfield HD Overhaul
With more than 1.5 million downloads, Starfield HD Overhaul is one of the most downloaded mods for the game. It replaces nearly 10,000 textures across the world with versions from 2K up to 8K (90% of them in 4K, per its page) and removes or reduces the noise in most of them. Its page says it covers the Shattered Space and Terran Armada DLC too, and it was updated on April 12, 2026. Creator: luxor8071. Download: Starfield HD Overhaul on Nexus Mods.

41. Real Flashlight
The vanilla flashlight projects a banded, artificial pattern, and this simple retexture replaces it with a beam that looks like a real flashlight, without the banding artifacts. Creator: DoubleYou. Needs: loose file loading enabled (its page recommends doing it with BethINI Pie). Compatibility: its files date from October 2023; texture swaps like this rarely break with patches, but as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Real Flashlight on Nexus Mods.

42. Better Visible Magazines
Skill magazines are easy to walk past, and this mod adds a bright green border, or an optional full green overlay, so you spot them. The same author’s Better Visible Valuables does the same for credit sticks and digipicks. Creator: 0Time. Compatibility: its page says it covers every magazine in the game as of its September 2023 release, so as of October 21, 2026, magazines added since then may not get the border until its creator updates it. Download: Better Visible Magazines on Nexus Mods.

43. Stellar Glass
Stellar Glass replaces Starfield’s wavy, lumpy-looking glass with custom textures that have a flatter normal map and less surface noise, so windows look cleaner throughout the game. The same author’s Stellar Water does a similar job for water. Creator: CyanideX. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023; it only replaces textures, but as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Stellar Glass on Nexus Mods.

44. Seamless Grav Jump
Seamless Grav Jump hides the loading screen behind the grav jump animation itself, so jumping between systems feels like one continuous sequence. It comes in three looks (Gravity Well, Lightspeed and Wormhole) and has more than 280,000 downloads. Creator: aDebaser. Needs: loose file loading enabled in StarfieldCustom.ini, per its page. Compatibility: its latest file (2.2) dates from July 2024, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Seamless Grav Jump on Nexus Mods.
Gameplay and Combat

45. Improved Combat AI
A common complaint is that Starfield’s enemies stand still and wait to be shot. This mod makes NPCs fire more often, shoot from cover, change position more frequently, react faster, aim slightly better and throw more grenades. The changes apply to companions too, so your crew pulls its weight. Its author updated it in April 2026 and notes it may disable achievements without an enabler. Creator: Ixion XVII. Download: Improved Combat AI on Nexus Mods.

46. Stealth Overhaul
The same author’s stealth mod makes sneaking more forgiving without making it trivial. It narrows how far NPCs can see you, cuts the noise you make when out of sight, lowers how easily sleeping NPCs wake, and brings back a balanced noise penalty for wearing heavy gear, which Bethesda removed in a 2023 patch. It is built to sit alongside Improved Combat AI. Creator: Ixion XVII. Download: Stealth Overhaul on Nexus Mods.

47. Easy Digipick
If the digipick lockpicking puzzle drives you up the wall, this comes in two flavors. Easy Digipick makes every lock simple, while Immersive Digipick lowers the difficulty overall but keeps Master locks a challenge. You still need the right Security perk ranks to attempt harder locks. It is one of the most downloaded gameplay mods for the game and was updated in April 2026. Creator: Ixion XVII. Download: Easy Digipick on Nexus Mods.

48. The Gang’s All Here
Tired of choosing just one companion? This mod lets several companions and crew members follow you at once, controlled from a command terminal you open from your Favorites menu. You can teleport them, have them wait, open their inventories and choose who speaks during quests. Its page says Free Lanes support arrived in version 4.2 and that the Creations versions now include PlayStation. Creator: Aurelianis. Download: The Gang’s All Here on Nexus Mods.

49. Shade’s Immersive Looting
In vanilla Starfield you cannot take the armor off a fallen enemy, and a knocked-out target still has to be pickpocketed. This mod adds a Strip button that unequips worn items so you can loot them, plus a one-press Loot All that can send everything to your ship. It is also the easiest way to meet the soft requirement of Useful Brigs (next entry), and its page links Bethesda.net versions for PC and Xbox. It was last updated in August 2024. Creator: Shadedness. Download: Shade’s Immersive Looting on Nexus Mods.

50. Useful Brigs
Many ships have a brig, and vanilla Starfield gives you no reason to use it. This mod lets you send knocked-out or pacified NPCs to your ship’s brig (one prisoner per bed) and turn them in to the right faction for credits, with their gear moved to your cargo. Its page lists a looting mod as a soft requirement so the “Send to Brig” prompt appears on knocked-out targets. Version 7.0 arrived on October 14, 2026, and its file note asks anyone using brigs added by modded habs to check that those habs are compatible before updating. Creator: Korodic. Needs: One looting mod, such as Shade’s Immersive Looting (No. 49). Download: Useful Brigs on Nexus Mods.

51. Legendary Module Recycler
Free Lanes added X-Tech, the resource used to reroll and upgrade legendary effects. This mod adds a recycler, permanently placed in the basement of The Lodge and buildable at outposts, ships and homes, that strips legendary modules off gear you do not want and turns them into X-Tech. It also converts leftover pre-Free Lanes modules and cores. Its page confirms it was updated for Free Lanes. Creator: JonathanOstrus. Download: Legendary Module Recycler on Nexus Mods.

52. Richer Merchants
Vendors run out of credits fast once you start selling loot. This mod increases the credits, ammunition and resources merchants carry, with versions from 2x all the way to 10,000x. Its page notes you need to wait for a restock (two days for most merchants, seven for ship vendors) and that a few vendors are only partly affected. Creator: JustAnOrdinaryGuy. Compatibility: its latest file (1.6) dates from May 2024, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Richer Merchants on Nexus Mods.

53. Instant Scan
Completing a planet’s flora and fauna survey normally means scanning each species several times. Instant Scan cuts that to a single scan, or three if you want to keep a little of the grind. Creator: JustAnOrdinaryGuy. Compatibility: its latest file (1.3) dates from December 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Instant Scan on Nexus Mods.

54. Customisable Animation Speed
Starfield’s airlocks, ladders, furniture, takeoffs, landings and dockings all take their time, and this mod lets you speed them up, along with weapon reloads and equip animations. A FOMOD installer lets you pick a speed multiplier for each group, and you can reinstall it to change your choice. Creator: Dank Rafft. Compatibility: its latest file (2.0.0) dates from May 2024, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Customisable Animation Speed on Nexus Mods.

55. Less Spongy Enemies
Per this mod’s page, enemies gain 20 extra health every level, which is why high-level fights turn into long slogs no matter how much damage you add. Less Spongy Enemies lowers that per-level bonus to 0, 5, 10 or 15, your choice, and the change applies to newly spawned enemies. Creator: Zzyxzz. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Less Spongy Enemies on Nexus Mods.

56. Burden Me Not: Clutter Begone
Starfield’s world is full of worthless clutter, and Burden Me Not takes over the resource tracking system to highlight junk in its own color, so you can tell trash from treasure. Stronger versions make clutter unlootable or remove it from the world, and alternate files drop the Scavenging rank 4 requirement so it works from the start. Creator: xatmos. Compatibility: its files date from October 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Burden Me Not on Nexus Mods.

57. Hide Spacesuit in Breathable Areas
The game’s “Hide Spacesuit in Settlements” option only works in settlements. This mod extends it to every breathable area, including breathable ships and your home ship, so your character stops wearing a helmet indoors. Creator: JustAnOrdinaryGuy. Compatibility: its latest file (1.7) dates from December 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Hide Spacesuit in Breathable Areas on Nexus Mods.

58. Increased Scan Distance
The scanner only picks up objects close to you. This mod raises the default scan distance by 5x, 10x or 25x, and it also extends the range of scanner-based social skills such as Diplomacy and Intimidation. Creator: JustAnOrdinaryGuy. Compatibility: its latest file (1.4) dates from December 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Increased Scan Distance on Nexus Mods.

59. Jetpack Overhaul
Vanilla boostpacks fire a fixed burst every time you press the button. Jetpack Overhaul makes them respond to how long you hold it, from a tenth of a second to three seconds, and optional files trade lower energy drain for less thrust. Creator: Ixion XVII. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Jetpack Overhaul on Nexus Mods.

60. No More Temple Puzzles
Starborn temples have you chase floating anomalies in zero gravity before you earn each power. This mod completes the temple automatically once you step into the ring, in under 15 seconds, per its page. Its author notes it edits a game script, so a game update could break it, and that you can save, quit and remove it if that happens. Creator: kamicane. Compatibility: its files date from October 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: No More Temple Puzzles on Nexus Mods.

61. Responsive Grabbing
Grabbing objects and bodies comes with a one-second delay before anything happens. Responsive Grabbing cuts it to 300 milliseconds, a small change that makes moving clutter, decorating and dragging bodies feel far less sluggish. Creator: Seb263. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Responsive Grabbing on Nexus Mods.

62. Improved Follower Behavior
This mod changes how followers behave while they tag along: they stay very close while you sneak, no longer stop to pick fights with local wildlife, loiter less and look for a seat near you instead of standing and staring. Its author stopped making Starfield mods in December 2024, so it will not get further updates. Creator: Deebz96. Compatibility: its latest file (1.1.2) dates from August 2024, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work fully on the current version. Download: Improved Follower Behavior on Nexus Mods.

63. Easy Speech
Starfield’s persuasion minigame can sink a quest on one bad exchange. This mod comes in two versions: Easy Speech makes persuasion succeed every time on every difficulty, while Immersive Speech, per its page, is a milder rebalance. It was updated in April 2026 and is built to pair with the same author’s Stealth Overhaul and Easy Digipick. Creator: Ixion XVII. Download: Easy Speech on Nexus Mods.

64. Quick Lowered Weapons
In third person, your character keeps their weapon raised for about 10 seconds after you stop aiming. This SFSE plugin lowers it quickly instead, and a separate first-person version is a plain plugin that needs no script extender. Delays for melee and ranged weapons can be set in an optional INI. It was updated on June 13, 2026, two days after patch 1.16.244. Creator: LarannKiar. Needs: SFSE (third-person version only). Download: Quick Lowered Weapons on Nexus Mods.

65. Gameplay Tweaks and Fixes
A grab bag of small adjustments from the author of Improved Combat AI: shell casings stay on the ground for 120 seconds instead of 5, floating quest markers fade in more cleanly, and the per-level health bonus for both NPCs and the player drops from 20 to 5, among other changes. That health change overlaps with Less Spongy Enemies (No. 55), so pick one. Creator: Ixion XVII. Compatibility: its latest file (2.00) dates from June 2024, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Gameplay Tweaks and Fixes on Nexus Mods.

66. Starvival: Immersive Survival Addon
Starvival turns Starfield into a survival game, with a staged needs system for eating, drinking and sleeping, new addictions, ship refueling with He-3 fuel and a long list of related features. Its page is upfront that it is more complex than similar mods and not for everyone. It is also one of the most actively updated mods on this list, at version 12.7.2 from October 13, 2026. Creator: lKocMoHaBTl. Needs: Cassiopeia Papyrus Extender (No. 9). Download: Starvival on Nexus Mods.

67. SKK Fast Start New Game
Per its page, SKK Fast Start bypasses the Argos and New Atlantis tutorials and starts a new game or New Game Plus at the Lodge, Cydonia, Akila, Neon, the Den or a random location, with full character creation and some loadout choices, in under a minute. You choose whether to join Constellation automatically, play the main quest normally or switch it off, and version 15 also enables Free Lanes’ Cruise Mode without finishing One Small Step. Creator: SKKmods. Download: SKK Fast Start New Game on Nexus Mods.
Ships and Outposts

68. StarUI Ship Builder
The ship builder is where many players spend dozens of hours, and this mod rebuilds it for PC. You get a compact layout, more than 30 selectable data columns including damage per second and damage per power point, a category sidebar, and a popup that shows every variant of a part at once instead of clicking through them. It even adds copy and paste for ship color sets. Creator: m8r98a4f2. Download: StarUI Ship Builder on Nexus Mods.

69. Atlantis Shipyard All Parts
Normally each manufacturer’s parts are split across different shipyards and systems. This mod puts every part at the Atlantis shipyard, so you can build a whole ship in one visit. Level and perk requirements still apply, and it works as a simple vendor edit, so conflicts are rare. Its page says it is compatible with Free Lanes and Terran Armada, with the new Free Lanes parts appearing once you collect their blueprints. Creator: TheMudsy. Download: Atlantis Shipyard All Parts on Nexus Mods.

70. Stroud Premium Edition
Stroud Premium Edition adds around 150 new habs with functional furniture for players who want their ship to feel lived in. You can buy the modules from any ship technician who sells Stroud parts or at the mod’s own showroom in New Atlantis. Its author warns you to leave New Atlantis before installing or updating. The Nexus version is free; an identical Achievement Friendly version on Creations is paid (200 Creation Credits). Creator: Vince134. Download: Stroud Premium Edition on Nexus Mods.

71. Matilija’s Aerospace
A full new ship manufacturer with cockpits, reactor habs, observation platforms, interlocking V-habs, engines, shields, landing gear and open cargo bays with lift platforms. It is one of the most endorsed ship-part packs on Nexus and was updated August 2, 2026. Its author notes a minor conflict with the Apogee mod (load Matilija’s first) and advises removing its parts from your ships before updating. Creator: Matilija. Download: Matilija’s Aerospace on Nexus Mods.

72. No Reactor Limit
The ship builder allows only one reactor per ship, and this SFSE plugin removes that limit. It belongs to a family of limit-removing plugins from the same author, including No Engine Power Limits, No Weapon Power or Count Limits and No Shield Limit, each with more than 480,000 downloads, and all of them were updated in June 2026, after patch 1.16.244. Its own page points to TN’s Supplemental Reactors, now part of TN’s Ship Modifications All in One (No. 83), as a cleaner way to add power. Creator: LordGregory. Needs: SFSE and the Visual C++ 2022 runtime. Download: No Reactor Limit on Nexus Mods.

73. Ship Builder Tolerance Tweaks
The ship builder refuses modules that overlap even slightly. This mod loosens that check so you can build tighter, more varied ships, and its largest setting all but switches it off. You apply it once with a console batch command, with no INI editing, and it stays applied. Creator: keanuWheeze. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Ship Builder Tolerance Tweaks on Nexus Mods.

74. Sit To Add Ship to Fleet
Normally you have to make a captured ship your home ship to add it to your fleet, which moves your crew over and sends your old ship off on its own. With this mod you just sit in the captured ship’s pilot seat and confirm, and its page says you can install, update or remove it at any time. It was updated in April 2026. Creator: wankingSkeever. Download: Sit To Add Ship to Fleet on Nexus Mods.

75. Ship Skip
Docking with a station plays a slow cutscene every time. Ship Skip removes the docking and undocking animations so you can leave the pilot seat right away, and an optional version skips landing and takeoff animations too. Its page says it works alongside the same author’s faster interaction animations mod. Creator: Bub. Compatibility: its files date from September 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Ship Skip on Nexus Mods.

76. Ship Builder Categories (SBC)
Ship Builder Categories adds new categories to the ship builder for other mods to sort their parts into, and several popular ship mods require it, including TN’s Ship Modifications All in One (No. 83). Its page warns that it must load above every mod that needs it or the game will crash, and recommends StarUI Ship Builder (No. 68) for a vertical category list with filters. It was updated in April 2026. Creator: rux616. Download: Ship Builder Categories on Nexus Mods.

77. Place Doors Yourself
The ship builder decides where your doors go, often where you do not want them. With this mod the game stops placing doors on its own, and you place as many as you like, wherever you like, even leaving a compartment sealed off from the rest of the ship. Creator: JimSoon. Compatibility: its latest file (2.0.7 beta) dates from May 2024, and its page still lists Plugins.txt Enabler, which that mod’s own page says the June 2024 game update made unnecessary; as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Place Doors Yourself on Nexus Mods.

78. More Ownable Ships
Starfield caps how many ships you can own, and this mod raises that cap by 3x, 5x or 10x, which matters once you start capturing ships. It pairs well with Sit To Add Ship to Fleet (No. 74). Creator: JustAnOrdinaryGuy. Compatibility: its latest file (1.3) dates from December 2023, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: More Ownable Ships on Nexus Mods.

79. Ship Vendor Framework (SVF)
Ship Vendor Framework lets mod authors add ships for sale at vendors without conflicting with each other, and a growing number of ship mods use it. Its page lists compatibility notes and patches for popular mods such as Starvival and the DarkStar series, and says it already includes the fixes from Ship Vendor Fix. It was updated on September 7, 2026. Creator: rux616. Download: Ship Vendor Framework on Nexus Mods.

80. Better Ship Part Snaps
This mod adds snap points to vanilla ship parts where they seem to be missing, while staying within the game’s grid, so modules line up the way you expect. Originally made by freschu and now maintained by rux616, it has no requirements on Starfield 1.12.32 or later, per its page, and was updated in April 2026. Creator: freschu and rux616. Download: Better Ship Part Snaps on Nexus Mods.

81. Ship Power Allocation Fix
The game sometimes changes your ship’s power allocation without asking: when you load a save, land, take off, swap ships, grav jump or rank up a skill. This mod remembers your manual allocation for each ship and restores it, and its page says you can install or remove it whenever you like. It was updated in April 2026. Creator: wankingSkeever. Download: Ship Power Allocation Fix on Nexus Mods.

82. Functional Ship Infirmaries
Ship infirmaries are decoration in the base game. With this mod, if a crew member with the medical skill is assigned to your ship, sitting in the infirmary’s surgical chair heals you and cures afflictions and conditions; its page notes Rosie Tannehill at the Hitching Post in Akila City is the only vanilla crew member who qualifies. Creator: LilithMotherOfAll. Compatibility: its latest file (2.0) dates from November 2023, and its page still lists the now-unneeded Plugins.txt Enabler, so as of October 21, 2026, it may not work on the current version until its creator updates it. Download: Functional Ship Infirmaries on Nexus Mods.

83. TN’s Ship Modifications All in One
This bundles TheOGTennessee’s ship module mods into one download, including Hab Tweaks, Useful Ship Structure, Expanded Cargo Holds (which triples the capacity of cargo containers), Supplemental Thrusters, Supplemental Reactors, Supplemental Cockpits and Hab Shells. Its page says anyone moving from the separate mods should uninstall them first, and it was updated on September 18, 2026. Creator: TheOGTennessee. Needs: Ship Builder Categories (No. 76), unless you use its Less Dependencies version. Download: TN’s Ship Modifications All in One on Nexus Mods.

84. Avontech Shipyards
Around 300 new ship parts with an industrial, grungy look, including warp nacelles and wings, from the creator of Dark Universe. Some parts need a looser module overlap tolerance, and its page gives the line to add to StarfieldCustom.ini; it also links a Creations version. Creator: kaosnyrb. Compatibility: its latest file (2.3.1) dates from September 2025, before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Avontech Shipyards on Nexus Mods.

85. StarUI Outpost
StarUI’s outpost module rebuilds the outpost build menu for PC with separate lists for category, building and variant, so you need four keys to navigate instead of eight, plus key bindings that match other menus and an inspect label at the cursor. Its page says it is safe to install or remove at any time and will not affect achievements. It was updated on September 6, 2026. Creator: m8r98a4f2. Download: StarUI Outpost on Nexus Mods.

86. B.A.S.E. (Building Advanced Space Encampments)
B.A.S.E. gives outpost builders the pieces the base game lacks: foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, doors and more, which snap together into clean corners. Its page says it ranks first in Nexus Mods’ settlements category by endorsements and downloads, and promises every update will stay free. Creator: LuxZg. Compatibility: its latest file (2.51) dates from May 2024, and its page still lists Plugins.txt Enabler and SFSE from before the game’s own plugin support arrived; as of October 21, 2026, it does not confirm support for the current version. Download: B.A.S.E. on Nexus Mods.

87. Outpost Shipbuilder Unlocked
Vendor-exclusive ship parts are normally sold only at specific shipyards. This mod adds all of them to the Landing Pad with Shipbuilder you can build at an outpost, while keeping level, quest and schematic requirements. Its page says the main version supports Free Lanes and Terran Armada, and an optional version adds the parts from the Falkland Systems Ship Services Creation. Creator: goldenchrome. Download: Outpost Shipbuilder Unlocked on Nexus Mods.
Weapons and Gear

88. Clean Reflex Sight Lenses
Reflex sights come with a tinted, dirty, glare-heavy lens that makes it harder to see your target. This mod removes the tint, dirt and glare, with fully transparent and reduced-glare versions to choose from. Creator: Stentorious. Compatibility: its latest file (1.6) dates from October 2024; it is a texture swap, but as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Clean Reflex Sight Lenses on Nexus Mods.

89. Craftable Weapon Skins
Most weapons have a skin slot in the crafting menu that you cannot actually use. Craftable Weapon Skins makes every weapon skin craftable, including ones you normally cannot get, and fixes several issues with the skins; a gameplay option removes the quest requirements, and the installer adds support for some Creations. Creator: frogs345. Compatibility: its latest file (1.8.3) dates from June 2025, before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Craftable Weapon Skins on Nexus Mods.

90. DarkStar Manufacturing
A full crafting and upgrade system for apparel, armor and weapons: you can customize quality, legendary effects, armor linings and weapon skins, and it adds new quality tiers above Superior called Unrivaled and Relic. NPCs can carry those higher tiers too, so its page warns that points of interest get more dangerous, and the best upgrades need level 130 and many trips through New Game Plus. It was updated on July 12, 2026. Creator: WykkydGaming. Download: DarkStar Manufacturing on Nexus Mods.
New Content and Free Creations

91. Dark Universe: Takeover
Starfield’s hand-built points of interest repeat often, and this mod adds 50 new Spacer military bases to spread out the déjà vu. Its version 2.0 update assigned each base to a biome and hand-adjusted it to fit, and bounty boards start sending you to them after their next refresh. It uses vanilla enemies, so combat mods work in these bases. It is also on Creations for Xbox and PC. Creator: kaosnyrb. Download: Dark Universe: Takeover on Nexus Mods.

92. At Hell’s Gate
A free, official Creation made by Kinggath Creations in partnership with Bethesda Game Studios. Walk up to an SSNN broadcast pillar in a major city such as New Atlantis and a distress signal starts a mini-quest that rewards you with a spacesuit based on DOOM’s Praetor Suit, the Super Shotgun, the Crucible Blade and craftable plushies for your ship, home or outpost. You grab it from the in-game Creations menu, with no Nexus account or script extender needed. Creator: Kinggath Creations (with Bethesda Game Studios). Download: At Hell’s Gate on Bethesda Creations.

93. POI Variations: No More Duplicates
Starfield’s points of interest repeat as exact copies, down to the same dead bodies and data slates. POI Variations makes each lore-filled vanilla location a unique place you can find on the star map, and fills the repeats with variations that move loot, clutter and enemies around and strip out the duplicated lore. It was updated on August 4, 2026. Creator: PlatinumPoster. Download: POI Variations on Nexus Mods.

94. POI Cooldown
Its page calls seeing the same point of interest in quick succession one of Starfield’s biggest frustrations (looking at you, Abandoned Cryo Lab). POI Cooldown puts a cooldown, 10 in-game days by default, on locations you have visited so they stop reappearing. Its page says Free Lanes added better cooldowns of its own but not for older locations like the Cryo Labs, lists support for 160 POIs and 34 caves, and notes it is also available on Creations. Creator: paulbrock. Download: POI Cooldown on Nexus Mods.

95. Dark Universe: Overtime
From the creator of Dark Universe: Takeover (No. 91), Overtime adds more than 300 new repeatable missions across more than 65 types to the mission boards, from space battles and infestations to manufacturing and deliveries, set in caves, colonies, science outposts and more. Mission data slates found along the way start new quests, and buildable mission boards let you start missions remotely. Creator: kaosnyrb. Compatibility: its latest file (1.1.3) dates from August 2025, before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Dark Universe: Overtime on Nexus Mods.

96. Bedlam: Dungeon Randomizer
Bedlam makes every enemy base play out differently: each time you arrive, it moves some hostile NPCs to new positions, lets enemies call for reinforcements partway through a fight, has rival factions attack each other and adds extra enemies, including Starborn and alien pets. Its page lists six randomizing methods in all. Creator: Gothos25. Compatibility: its latest file (2.1.0) dates from March 2026, shortly before Free Lanes, so as of October 21, 2026, its page does not confirm support for the current version. Download: Bedlam on Nexus Mods.

97. NPC Routines Expanded
In the base game many named NPCs, especially vendors, stand in one spot all day. This mod gives daily schedules to 80 named characters and 12 unnamed ones across the major cities and settlements, so many shops keep business hours and hire robots to work the night shift. Its page says each routine was checked against every quest scene that NPC appears in, and warns against removing the mod mid-save. It was updated on June 25, 2026. Creator: FlippingEggs. Download: NPC Routines Expanded on Nexus Mods.

98. Souls of Cities
Souls of Cities replaces the weakest parts of the vanilla crowd system in New Atlantis, Akila City, Cydonia and Neon, giving generic city NPCs full names, properly aligned facial morphs and clothing with physics. You can also choose their faces, outfits, voices and height, or add your own characters through its SFSE framework. It was updated on October 14, 2026. Creator: LarannKiar. Needs: SFSE. Download: Souls of Cities on Nexus Mods.

99. Royal Galaxy
From the maker of Royal Weathers (No. 35), Royal Galaxy is a Vanilla+ overhaul that bundles more than 50 mods: bug fixes, quality of life changes, stronger but less spongy enemies, tougher Terrormorphs and Ashta, more varied encounters and points of interest, and restored cut dialogue for the faction questlines. Its page suggests playing the early game on Normal or lower, because the difficulty is tuned for a stronger late game. It was updated in April 2026. Creator: JaeDL (Starborn Royalty Knights). Needs: Royal Patch Hub and Difficulty Configurators, and Royal Leveled Enemies for Shattered Space, per its page. Download: Royal Galaxy on Nexus Mods.

100. Astrogate
Astrogate turns grav jumps into journeys: started from the pilot’s seat, a jump takes real time and you can walk around your ship while it happens, with improved effects. You set how long jumps last, can skip one by sleeping or waiting, choose whether you arrive near the planet, at the edge of the system or at the star, and cancel a jump by cutting power to the engines. It was updated on June 2, 2026. Creator: RealityIDR. Download: Astrogate on Nexus Mods.
How We Chose These Mods
We started from Nexus Mods’ own popularity data: we pulled every Starfield mod with at least 600 endorsements, ranked them by endorsements and unique downloads, and took from the top, alongside Bethesda’s own featured Creations. Every pick was checked against its creator’s page on October 21, 2026; the original 30 were first checked on September 21, 2026, and rechecked on October 12 and October 19. A mod made this list only if it is still published with its files available and has a real track record with players. A loved mod whose page predates the current version still belongs, because mods get updated for patches all the time, and its entry says what its page supports as of October 21, 2026. Frameworks that popular mods require, such as Cassiopeia, Ship Builder Categories and Ship Vendor Framework, are included because you will end up installing them anyway.
We left out mods made obsolete by official updates, such as the early upscaler swaps that Bethesda’s own DLSS support replaced and Plugins.txt Enabler, whose own page says the June 2024 update made it unnecessary. We also skipped adult mods, near-duplicates of mods already listed (a second achievement enabler, a second color filter remover, alternative inventory menus), cheats and tools built only for mod authors.
Download mods only from the creator pages linked above: Nexus Mods and Bethesda’s Creations menu. Re-upload sites often host outdated or tampered files, and an old SFSE plugin is the most common reason the game crashes on launch after a patch. Bethesda’s own update notes are the quickest way to tell whether a new patch just landed. If you want more Bethesda to play once your load order is set, our Elder Scrolls guides and our rundown of how many Fallout games there are are good next stops.
Starfield shares its Creation Engine roots with Fallout 4, and our list of the best Fallout 4 mods covers that game’s frameworks and favorites, as our best Skyrim mods list does for Skyrim Special Edition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you download Starfield mods, Nexus Mods or Creations? On PC you can use both. Nexus Mods lists nearly 14,000 Starfield mods as of October 21, 2026, including 99 of the 100 on this list, and you install them with a mod manager such as Vortex or Mod Organizer 2. Bethesda’s Creations menu, on the game’s main menu, is the only option on Xbox and PS5, and it mixes free mods with paid ones.
Are Starfield mods safe to use? Mods from Nexus Mods and Bethesda’s official Creations menu are generally safe, and Nexus scans uploads. The bigger risk is your save: always keep a backup, and avoid removing script-heavy mods partway through a playthrough.
Why did my mods stop working after a Starfield update? Every patch changes the game executable, which breaks SFSE plugins until SFSE and the Address Library are updated, usually within days. Plugin-based and texture mods typically keep working; if the game crashes on launch, check for SFSE updates first.
Do older Starfield mods still work? Many of them do. Dozens of the most loved Starfield mods were last updated before the April 2026 Free Lanes update, and each of those entries on this list says what its page supports as of October 21, 2026. Texture and simple plugin mods usually survive patches, while SFSE plugins and interface mods are the most likely to break until their creators update them, so add them a few at a time and keep a save from before you installed them.
Can you mod Starfield on Xbox or PS5? Yes, through Bethesda’s Creations menu on the main menu. Console Creations cannot use the script extender, so SFSE mods stay PC-only, but many Nexus favorites such as Dark Universe: Takeover and The Gang’s All Here have official Creations versions. It is the same idea we covered for The Witcher 3’s console mods, and Starfield also made our list of the best PS5 games of 2026.
How do you install Starfield mods? On PC, Xbox and PS5, open Creations from the game’s main menu and download mods there. For the Nexus Mods picks on PC, start with a mod manager such as Vortex (Nexus Mods’ own) or Mod Organizer 2, then add each mod from its creator’s page and enable it. Anything marked Needs: SFSE also needs the Starfield Script Extender, which its official page says supports only the latest Steam version of the game, and you launch the game through sfse_loader.exe instead of the normal launcher.
What should I install first? Start with SFSE, the Address Library and the Unofficial Starfield Patch, add Baka Achievement Enabler if you care about achievements, then StarUI Inventory. Add gameplay and content mods one or two at a time so you can spot a problem quickly.
Are Starfield mods free? Everything on Nexus Mods is free, and many Creations are too, including At Hell’s Gate and Bethesda’s own Deimog vehicle, both on Bethesda’s list of recommended free Creations. Other Creations cost Creation Credits, including “Achievement Friendly” versions of some free Nexus mods, so check the price before you download.
