Silent Hill Townfall: New Game Plus Explained

New Game Plus in Silent Hill: Townfall unlocks after you finish the game once and restarts the story from the very first Part in a new save. According to launch guides, almost nothing carries over except your Strange Postcard collectibles, but the mode adds new weapons, new collectibles and access to the two secret endings that a first playthrough cannot reach.

So it is not a power fantasy replay. It is a second, faster run with new things to find, and it is required for the platinum. Here is how it works, spoiler-light.

How to Start New Game Plus

Finish the game once, on any ending and any difficulty. New Game Plus then appears as its own option on the main menu. Launch guides report that it starts you at Part 1: Arrival in a new save file, so your completed first-run save is not overwritten.

Konami producer Motoi Okamoto confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that the secret ending content only becomes accessible after clearing the game once, and director Jon McKellan has said repeat runs go faster because of what you unlock. Our endings guide explains how the three main endings and two secret ones fit together without spoiling any of them.

What Carries Over

Very little, by design. Guides published at launch by established walkthrough sites agree on the core rule:

  • Strange Postcards carry over. These are collectibles scattered through the first run, and launch guides count 15 of them.
  • Your inventory, weapons and healing items do not. You start again with nothing.
  • Your knowledge does. Puzzles are reportedly identical across every difficulty setting and in New Game Plus, so solutions you worked out on run one still apply. Our puzzles guide explains how they work.

The postcards matter more than they look. Launch walkthroughs report that a symbol-locked door in New Game Plus uses them, and it is tied to one of the secret endings. If you are still on your first playthrough, pick up every Strange Postcard you see; it saves a lot of backtracking later.

What New Game Plus Adds

New weapons. Launch guides describe two New Game Plus weapons:

  • The Axe, found early in the Shorefront area, reported as a one-hit kill melee weapon that never breaks. After a first run spent nursing planks that snap, it changes how encounters feel, including the ones in our bosses and monsters guide. (Our combat guide covers weapon durability on a normal run.)
  • A second firearm, reported as a one-hit, infinite-ammo pistol, which only appears after you have completed one of the secret endings. That makes it a reward for a third run rather than a second.

New collectibles. Walkthrough sites report a separate set of items that only exist in New Game Plus. They are tied to the secret endings, and many are reportedly missable within their section, since you cannot replay a Part without reloading an earlier save.

The secret endings. This is the main reason to play it. Both secret endings are locked to New Game Plus, and reaching them depends on finding those new items along the way.

Does Difficulty Matter in New Game Plus?

No. You can pick any combat and puzzle setting, and trophy guides report that the New Game Plus trophy, Reliving A Nightmare, can be earned on any difficulty. Our difficulty guide suggests trying Nightmare here once you know the town, but it is optional.

How to Plan Your Runs

  1. Run one: play naturally, explore thoroughly, and collect every Strange Postcard.
  2. Run two (New Game Plus): grab the Axe early, hunt the New Game Plus collectibles and go for a secret ending.
  3. Run three if you want everything: the second secret ending, the extra pistol and any trophies left over.

Trophy hunters can fold the speedrun and no-manual-save challenges into these repeat runs. Our trophy roadmap lays out the order, and our saving guide explains the trophy that punishes phone saves. For run times, see how long to beat Townfall.
