Silent Hill: Townfall follows Simon Ordell, a man called back to the island town of St. Amelia, Scotland, in 1996 to “put things right.” He finds the town under a heavy fog, seemingly abandoned but not at rest, and has to piece together his own connection to the place and its people. It is a brand-new, self-contained story, not a remake of any earlier Silent Hill game.
Everything below comes from Konami’s official descriptions and the game’s opening hours as reviewers have described them. There are no plot twists, no ending details and nothing that happens past the setup.
The Premise
Konami’s Steam page sets it up this way: Simon is “called back to the island of St. Amelia to ‘put things right’,” and “driven to understand his connection to the place and its inhabitants, Simon begins to discover fragments of a past rising to the surface.”
The PlayStation Store listing adds the opening details. Simon wakes up at St. Amelia with nothing but his clothes, an IV bag and a medical wristband with his name on it, and heads into town with no leads except the voices he picks up on the CRTV, the pocket television that replaces the series’ radio. Reviewers describe him emerging from the water near the docks at the very start.
Konami describes the game as “a tale of introspection, loss, and consequence,” and that is a fair warning of the tone. GamesRadar+ called it “a distressing story of remorse and penance,” and several reviewers note that the story takes its time, revealing very little for much of the game before it pays off.
When and Where It Takes Place
- Year: 1996. The mid-1990s setting is why so much of the game runs on period technology: the CRTV, phone booths you save at, floppy disks and printers in puzzles.
- Place: St. Amelia, a fictional island town off the Scottish coast. It is not the town of Silent Hill. Our guide to whether St. Amelia is a real place covers the real Scottish village that inspired it.
Konami’s series producer Motoi Okamoto has explained the thinking: Silent Hill is being treated less as a physical location and more as a phenomenon, a state of mind, which is how it can reach a Scottish island.
The Main Characters and Cast
Konami revealed the three leads in its cast trailer:
| Character | Who they are | Voiced by |
|---|---|---|
| Simon Ordell | The protagonist, back in St. Amelia to “put things right” | Jovan Adepo |
| Zoe | A nurse at the local family clinic whose voice begs Simon to “come back to her” through the CRTV | Kezia Burrows |
| Richard | Another voice on the CRTV, who asks Simon to come back and “put some things to rest” | Terry O’Quinn |
According to the PlayStation Store listing, Richard’s ties to Simon are unknown at the start, but the two need each other. Kezia Burrows previously starred in Observation, the studio’s earlier game. Reviewers note that the cast is small, and several single out the performances as a highlight.
Is Silent Hill Townfall a Remake?
No. Townfall is an original story with new characters and a new setting. Konami’s store copy calls it “a brand-new, memorable Silent Hill” and “a brand new story.” Konami first announced the game in 2022, and it was developed by Screen Burn, the Glasgow studio formerly called No Code.
The confusion is understandable, because Konami’s Silent Hill revival mixes remakes and new games. The Silent Hill 2 remake arrived in 2024, and Silent Hill f, set in 1960s Japan, followed as another new story. Townfall belongs with f: a new standalone entry, not a retelling. Our guide to how Townfall connects to other Silent Hill games covers its place in the series in more detail.
Do You Need to Know the Other Games?
No. Konami calls it “full-length” and “self-contained,” and you can start here. The biggest adjustment for series fans is the camera, which our guide to whether you can play in third person covers. Fans of Silent Hill 2 will recognize the way the story deals with guilt, and the way its endings are shaped by how you play rather than one final choice.
Extra Story Material
If you want more of St. Amelia, the British comics publisher 2000 AD has a tie-in one-shot comic, Silent Hill: Townfall – The Dock House, written by director Jon McKellan. Collectibles in the game also fill in the town’s history: documents, phone numbers and CRTV signals all carry story fragments, and the trophy guide lists the ones tied to finding them all. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a digital art book; our editions guide has the details.
