Aniimo: How Multiplayer and Co-op Work

Yes, you can play Aniimo with friends: the store listings support online co-op for two to four players, and you can explore together, team up for boss challenges, and join three-player squads in the competitive Egg Heist mode. You can also play solo, since most of the game works alone, but Aniimo is always online, so you share social spaces with other players even when you are not grouped.

This guide covers the live game as of the version 1.1 update of September 23, 2026: how many players can group, how co-op exploring works, every team mode and when it unlocks, where PvP comes in, the social hubs and trading, and what solo players can do.

Player Counts, Crossplay and Servers

The PlayStation Store listing says “4 online players” and “Online play required.” The Xbox Store listing says “Online co-op (2-4)” and lists cross-platform multiplayer and co-op, and Steam lists single-player, online co-op, online PvP and cross-platform multiplayer.

Servers are split by region (Aniimo-Americas, Aniimo-Europe and Aniimo-Apac), and Pawprint says data on different servers is independent. Player guides note you can only group with friends on the same server, so agree on one before anyone makes a character. Our platforms guide covers linking one account across PC, console and mobile.

Exploring Together in Companion Mode

Co-op exploring runs through what the game calls Companion Mode. The 1.1 patch notes made two changes to it: you can now invite a friend on a Companion without standing face-to-face in-game, and when anyone in the Companion gathers a rare resource, it is shared with every party member.

Player guides describe the flow like this: you send an invite from your Friends list, your friend appears in your world, and one player leads while the other follows. Pawprint’s closed beta notes also refer to fighting Alpha Aniimo “in a friend’s world,” so the open-world bosses are fair game in co-op. Player guides add that main story progress stays tied to each player’s own world, so a guest does not advance their own story by joining yours. That last point has not been confirmed officially, so check your quest log before relying on it.

Holo-Battle Interlink is the dedicated co-op boss mode. Per the 1.1 update notice, it unlocks at the Trailblazer I title and opens every week from Thursday 04:00 to Monday 03:59 server time. You form a four-player team or fill the slots with AI teammates, then take on three routes, each with its own Alphas and environmental mechanics. The Team Leader picks the buff effects in four-player co-op.

Routes can be replayed freely, and your best Star Rank on each route counts toward weekly milestone rewards. Helping other Pathfinders raise their Star Ranks earns separate Support Rewards, which gives veterans a reason to carry newer friends. Both reward tracks reset weekly.

Some Sanctums are built for pairs: the launch patch notes fixed a bug with “a two-player mechanism in a two-player Sanctum.” Player guides say you set these up by forming a party with a friend before entering.

Egg Heist: The PvP Mode

Egg Heist is where Aniimo gets competitive. The store description calls it a “PVEVP” mode that lets you “join a 3-player team anytime to engage in real-time searches and battles in the Lost Isles.” Pawprint’s beta notes described the loop: explore and gather supplies, or fight other teams for a Giant Darkler Egg.

Since September 24, Egg Heist Team Mode has a Chaos Mode. It unlocks once you reach Tier IV, “Elite Egg Seeker,” costs a Chaos Ticket to enter, and has “significantly higher drop rates for Prismana Aniimo Eggs,” plus rare Secret Collectibles. Pawprint warns it enforces strict escape conditions and says “Teaming up is highly recommended.” The developer’s pre-launch letter also said “PvP event modes will continue to be refined,” so expect changes.

Social Hubs, Homes and Trading

Even solo, you are not alone. The floating city of Astra is where you “meet other Pathfinders, and make new friends,” per the developer, and your personal RV parks at open-world campsites where players meet and interact. Pawprint’s September 3 letter added a social farming feature: you can till the soil at another Pathfinder’s Home to earn a share of their harvest.

Chat has an automatic Voice-to-Text translation feature as of 1.1, which transcribes foreign speech into your language, and the “Auto Voice” chat option is off by default. At launch, a full six-member squad in the “Aniimo Together!” event earned every member an Aniipod Ultra.

Trading exists but is limited. The September 19 patch notes adjusted the rules shown on “Aniimo Exchange,” and player guides describe it as a friends-only swap gated behind friendship level, with daily limits. Aniimo hatched from sealed closed beta eggs are bound to your account and cannot be traded, and the Fair Play rules ban selling items or accounts for real money.

Playing Solo

Nothing forces you into a group. Steam lists single-player, Holo-Battle Interlink accepts AI teammates, and the story, catching and Home building all work alone. The only hard requirement is a connection. If you are deciding whether to spend money before inviting friends, our free-to-play guide explains what is paid. How many players can play Aniimo together? Up to four in online co-op, per the PlayStation and Xbox store listings. Egg Heist uses teams of three.
