Sony opened PlayStation 5 Pro purchase applications on its Japanese Sony Store on September 28, 2026, and only accounts with at least 60 hours of PS5 or PS4 play over the past two years can apply, according to PlayStation Japan’s campaign page. Applications close October 7, and if they outnumber the planned stock, buyers will be picked by lottery.
The Details
The console on offer is the 2TB PS5 Pro (model CFI-7100B01), with a DualSense and Astro’s Playroom preinstalled, at a suggested price of 137,980 yen including tax. To apply, you must meet every condition:
- Use PlayStation’s online services with a Sony account registered in Japan.
- Have played PS5, PS4 or both for 60 hours or more in total, while signed in to that account, between September 27, 2024 and September 27, 2026.
- Have the account’s sign-in ID unified with a My Sony ID.
The schedule, all in Japan time:
- Applications: open now, closing October 7 at 23:59.
- Results: sent by email from around October 26, with LINE notifications available if you link your account.
- Purchase deadline: winners must buy through the online Sony Store by November 2 at 11:59. Payment is by credit card, Rakuten Pay, PayPay or Merpay only.
- Second draw: any units winners do not buy go to a re-draw from November, among eligible applicants who lost the first time.
What This Means for Players
Sony’s page does not say why the playtime rule exists, but its effect is clear: a brand-new account cannot qualify, which is exactly the kind of account resellers tend to rely on. Sixty hours across two years is a low bar for anyone who actually plays.
For players outside Japan, nothing changes. The page covers the Japanese Sony Store only, and Sony has not announced anything similar for other regions.
