Sims 4: How to Change a Sim’s Height

You cannot change a Sim’s height with official tools in The Sims 4: Create a Sim has no height slider, and EA’s patch notes up to the September 22, 2026 update have not added one. Height is fixed by life stage, so the only way to make one Sim taller or shorter than the rest is a community height slider mod, which works on PC and Mac only.

Below, we explain why Sims share a height, how to install and use a height slider step by step, what to watch out for once you do, and what PlayStation and Xbox players can and cannot change. We name the pack or platform wherever it matters.

Why Every Adult Sim Is the Same Height

In the base game, height comes with the life stage. Toddlers are small, Children are taller, and from Teen onward everyone stands at the same height. The community wiki cites a 2014 comment from a Maxis developer explaining that Teens are told apart by thinner frames, fewer curves and a rounder face rather than by being shorter.

Create a Sim lets you sculpt a great deal: face, body shape, weight and muscle. None of those tools changes overall height, and neither do the body changes that happen in play, such as a Sim working out or losing weight. The only official way a Sim gets taller is by aging up from one stage to the next, which our guide to aging Sims without cheats covers.

EA’s cheat list has no height command either. Cheats like cas.fulleditmode unlock more of Create a Sim, but they do not add a height control that is not already there.

How to Install a Height Slider Mod on PC and Mac

Height sliders are custom content made by the Sims community, not by Maxis. EA’s own mod instructions cover the install:

  1. Download one height slider from a creator you trust. EA warns that it does not screen mods, so stick to well-known sources.
  2. If the file is a .zip or .rar, unzip it.
  3. Move the .package file into the Mods folder: open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and look for Mods. If there is no Mods folder, create one.
  4. Launch the game and open Game Options, then Other.
  5. Make sure Enable Custom Content and Mods is checked.
  6. Restart the game.

Now open Create a Sim. Most height sliders work as a hidden “hotspot” on the body that you click and drag, and each creator says which part to use. One long-running option, Luumia’s Height Slider, changes height when you drag the Sim’s neck up or down in the front view, and its creator also added four height presets (Short, Medium Short, Medium Tall and Tall) to the Bodies section for players who would rather not drag. Other sliders, per their descriptions, use the feet instead: drag up to make the Sim taller and down to make them shorter.

To change an existing Sim, such as a premade or a townie, the slider creators point to the same route used for full edits. Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C, type testingcheats true, then cas.fulleditmode, then Shift-click the Sim and choose Modify in CAS. Our guide to changing traits walks through that editor in more detail, and our mod installation guide covers the full setup.

What to Know Before You Use One

A few caveats come straight from the slider creators and from EA:

  • Install only one. Creators warn against using two height sliders at once, and several ship in multiple strengths, of which you pick a single file. One creator notes the extreme versions can make Sim portraits look strange.
  • Animations do not adjust. The game’s animations are built for Sims of the same height, so creators warn that kisses, hugs and other close interactions will clip between Sims of different heights, and say this cannot be fixed from the slider side. Luumia also notes that hands or feet occasionally disappear while adjusting height, with a game restart as the temporary fix.
  • Check the version. Several popular sliders have passed between community maintainers since their original release, so make sure the copy you download says it works with the current game patch.
  • Updates switch mods off. EA disables custom content and mods after every game update. EA’s advice is to load the game once with mods off, check the creator’s page for a compatible version, then re-enable mods under Game Options > Other.
  • Shared Sims lose it. Per EA, custom content in a Gallery upload is missing for anyone who does not have it installed, so a friend needs the same slider to see your Sim’s height.

Some newer community versions go further, adding options such as children and teens who grow gradually day by day, according to their creators’ descriptions. Treat those as larger script mods: they need more care after each patch than a plain slider. For more mods that change how the game plays, see our list of the best Sims 4 mods.

Height on PlayStation and Xbox

EA’s help center is clear that mods and custom content are only available on PC and Mac, so there is no way to install a height slider on PlayStation or Xbox. Cheats do work on console (open the cheat console with L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 or LT + RT + LB + RB), but EA’s list includes none that changes height, and entering testingcheats on console disables trophies and achievements for that save.

The size controls console players do have apply to objects, not people. EA’s help center explains how to scale an object up or down in Build Mode by holding L2 + R2 on PlayStation or LT + RT on Xbox and pressing up or down on the D-pad. Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a height slider in The Sims 4 without mods? No. Create a Sim has no height control, and EA has not added one in any update or pack as of September 2026.

Can you change a Sim’s height on console? No. Height sliders are mods, and EA confirms mods are PC and Mac only. No console cheat changes height.

Why are teens as tall as adults in The Sims 4? Teens share the adult height in The Sims 4. Per the community wiki, Maxis set them apart with thinner frames and rounder faces instead.

Will a height slider break my save? Sliders are custom content, so EA’s usual advice applies: back up your saves, and check the creator’s page after each game update before re-enabling mods.

Does cas.fulleditmode unlock a height slider? No. It unlocks full editing of an existing Sim in Create a Sim, including traits and appearance, but there is no height control in the base game for it to unlock.
