Fortnite: How to Jam With Jam Tracks

To jam in Fortnite, open the Emote Wheel, switch to the Jam Tracks tab, pick a Jam Track you own and choose a part: Lead, Drums, Vocals, Bass or all four at once. Your loop starts playing in a Jam circle, and other players who step in can layer loops from their own Jam Tracks on top; Epic’s Festival help says up to four people can play a loop together.

Below we cover what you need before you start, the exact steps, how to join someone else’s Jam, how to keep strangers out, and where else Jam Tracks work.

Which Version This Covers

This guide is current for Chapter 7 Season 4, Fortnite Override, on the v42.20 update, as of September 28, 2026. Jamming itself is not seasonal, but Epic keeps adding to it: the v42.10 update brought access controls, tighter Jam circles and Jam Track support in Creative islands. The Jam Tracks for sale in the Item Shop rotate, so what you can buy changes often.

Jamming works the same way on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile. The only difference is the input that opens your Emote Wheel.

What You Need Before You Jam

Every loop you play comes from a Jam Track you own. Epic’s Festival help center says you can play the Lead, Drum, Vocals or Bass loop of any Jam Track in your Locker. Jam Tracks come from two places, per Epic:

  • Passes. You unlock Jam Tracks by progressing through each season’s pass.
  • The Item Shop. Jam Tracks rotate in the Shop and are bought with V-Bucks. If you are short, our guide to earning V-Bucks without spending money covers the free routes.

Per the community wiki, there were 712 Jam Tracks in the game as of September 7, 2026. For Jam Stage, Epic says to equip your Jam Tracks in your Locker first, which gives you access to their Jam Loops from the Emote menu.

How to Start a Jam, Step by Step

  1. Open the Emote Wheel in a match or on the Jam Stage. On PC that is B by default, the same Emote input our guide to thanking the Bus Driver covers for every platform.
  2. Scroll through the tabs to Jam Tracks. Epic’s help center names this tab in its steps for the Jam Track player.
  3. Pick a song from the Jam Tracks you own.
  4. Choose a part: Lead, Drums, Vocals or Bass. Epic says you can also select all four instruments to jam solo; per the community wiki, that is the “All” option added in v34.40.
  5. Adjust the sound. Epic says the tempo, key and major or minor settings shape your mashup. You will find them in the Change Tempo/Key menu.
  6. Let people join. Anyone in range can step in and add a loop, unless you restrict access (see below).

Two newer details from Epic’s v42.10 update notes: Jam circles can now overlap at their outer edges, so the “Too Close To Another Jam” message shows up far less often, and each Jam takes up less space.

If you only want music, not an instrument, switch to Listen mode with the input prompt in the center of the wheel. Epic notes that some challenges specifically require Listen mode rather than playing an instrument.

How to Join Someone Else’s Jam

Walk into their Jam circle and add a loop of your own: pick one of your Jam Tracks and a part from the Jam Tracks tab of your Emote Wheel, or, per the community wiki, use the floating circles that appear around an active Jam to assign a track and instrument. Epic describes Jamming as mixing and matching to create mashups, so your loop plays alongside theirs, and you can freely switch instruments and tracks while it runs.

If nothing happens when you step in, the host may have locked the Jam to their party.

How to Keep Strangers Out of Your Jam

Since v42.10, Epic lets you restrict a Jam to party members:

  • Per Jam: open the Change Tempo/Key menu and switch the access level from Anyone to Party Only. Switch it back to Anyone at any time to reopen the Jam.
  • By default: your next Jam remembers the access level you used last. To set a permanent default, go to Settings, Audio, Jam Tracks.

Invite friends to your party first, then start the Jam, so the lock never catches them out.

Where Else Jam Tracks Work

  • Festival Jam Stage. Select the Fortnite Festival Jam Stage tile, check your equipped Jam Tracks in your Locker, and hold Ready to start. Epic says a band holds up to four players, and the Stage Tech in the lobby lets you tune audio, video and input.
  • Creative islands. Since v42.10, the Jam Track player works in Creative islands that have Jam Tracks enabled, so you can listen while you play. Creators decide whether it is on, and our guide on whether Creative maps give XP covers the progression side.
  • Battle Royale Game Moments. Equip Jam Tracks in the Game Moments section of your Locker and Epic uses them as Intro Music when you jump off the Battle Bus and Celebration Music when you win.
  • Lobby Music. Jam Tracks can also be set as your lobby music from the Lobby section of the Locker.

Time spent in Festival also earns Battle Pass XP, which Epic’s help center confirms counts toward your pass; our guide to leveling up fast has the details. For more, browse every Fortnite guide.
