Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus. It’s a paid game at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition on both stores, and neither Microsoft nor Sony has announced plans to add it to a subscription.
You also don’t need either subscription to play it, because it’s single-player. Here are the details.
What the Stores Show
- Microsoft Store: the Xbox listing sells GTA 6 as a standard purchase, and Microsoft’s store catalog doesn’t include it in any Game Pass tier: not Ultimate, not PC Game Pass, not Premium or Essential.
- PlayStation Store: the PS5 listing is a standard purchase with no PS Plus inclusion.
- Announcements: neither Xbox Wire nor the PlayStation Blog has announced subscription plans for it.
If you see “GTA 6 on Game Pass day one” posts, they aren’t based on anything Microsoft or Rockstar has said.
Do You Need PS Plus or Game Pass to Play?
No. GTA 6 is “a single-player experience”, per PlayStation’s FAQ, and the PlayStation Store lists “Offline play enabled”. Online subscriptions like PS Plus and Game Pass are needed for online multiplayer, and GTA 6 has none at launch; our online multiplayer guide explains.
You do need an internet connection and your PlayStation or Xbox account to download the game, since every copy is a download.
What GTA+ Is (and Why It’s Different)

Will GTA 6 Come to Game Pass or PS Plus Later?
Nothing is announced. Rockstar’s older games, including GTA 5, have appeared in subscription catalogs years after release, but that tells you nothing definite about GTA 6. Game Pass is also no route to a PC version: GTA 6 isn’t on PC at all, as our PC guide explains.
