To change your appearance in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, talk to Boyle in the Guild Office at your Base Camp and choose Change Appearance. The option opens during Chapter 3 of the main story, and from then on you can reopen the full character creator as often as you like, for free.

When the Appearance Option Unlocks
Level-5’s own How to Enjoy Life on the Island page promises that “you can edit your avatar at the Guild anytime you wish.” In practice that Guild service is not there on day one. It arrives with the Guild Office at your Base Camp, which the story sets up during Chapter 3. That is the same chapter where the Base Camp Guild Quests open, so if the Guild Office counter is not there yet, the answer is simply to keep pushing the main story.
Before that point there is no mirror, item, or menu toggle that changes your face or body. The opening character creator is the only editor you get until Chapter 3.
How to Change Your Appearance, Step by Step
- Travel to your Base Camp.
- Enter the Guild Office.
- Speak to Boyle at the counter.
- Select Change Appearance.
- Edit anything you like, then confirm.
The screen that opens is the same character creator you used at the start of the game, not a cut-down version. Player guides agree that it costs no Dosh and no materials, and that there is no cooldown, so you can experiment freely and change your mind the same day.
On controller you navigate with the stick and confirm with the standard confirm button on each platform. On PC, pressing F10 opens the full keyboard and mouse control list, a feature Level-5 added in Version 1.4.0.
What the Editor Covers
The editor rebuilds your whole avatar, from facial features and eyes to body and hair. Because it is the full creator, a character you rushed through in the opening can be completely redone rather than tweaked.
Two things add options on top of the defaults:
- Eye and Hair Catalogs. Level-5 added an in-game Guide entry for “Eye and Hair Catalogs” in Version 1.1.1, describing them as catalogs that increase the eyes and hairstyles available. Player guides say Marco sells them at the Base Camp shop, and that the two Hair Catalogs together add 12 hairstyles. Players on Steam’s forums report that the second Hair Catalog only appears once your Bulletin Board reaches its top level, so treat it as a late-game unlock rather than a simple purchase.
- Free update avatar parts. The Version 2.0 update (December 2025), which added the Snoozaland roguelike area, also added six new hairstyles as Avatar Parts, including Wavy Long, Royal Twintails and Regal Ponytail. The community wiki lists Royal Twintails and Regal Ponytail in Snoozaland’s Dark Don’s Dreamy Deals shop for Dream Points.

Appearance vs Outfit
Your appearance and your clothing are separate systems. Changing clothes happens through your equipment, not through Boyle, and it is available from your first Life onwards. Level-5 has added a steady stream of cosmetic gear since launch: the Modern Girl, Retro Boy and Sweet series in Version 1.4.0, several new armor series with Version 2.0, such as the Shadow Girl, Student and Poker series, and in Version 2.2.0 the True Gentleman’s and Jibanyan costume packs, which you claim from the Treasure Chest in the Eternia Village Guild Office.
If you want to show off the result, Photo Mode arrived in the Weird Pad with Version 1.5.0, with pose and camera controls.
Tips Most Players Miss
- Treat the opening creator as a draft. Since the full editor comes back in Chapter 3, there is no reason to agonise over it at the start.
- Pick up catalogs before a big redesign, so you choose from every style in one sitting instead of changing twice.
- Match your look to your Life. Level-5 itself suggests changing up your appearance based on the Life you choose, and since it is free there is no downside.
