Fantasy Life i: How to Change Hair

Fantasy Life i official screenshot

You change your hair in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time by talking to Boyle in the Guild Office at your Base Camp and selecting Change Appearance, which reopens the full character creator. The Guild Office appears during Chapter 3 of the main story, and restyling is free and unlimited once it does.

Below we cover the exact steps, how many styles you start with, what the two Hair Catalogs take to unlock (one of them is far harder than it looks), and the new hairstyles Level-5 has added in free updates since launch, verified against official patch notes.

Where the Hair Option Lives

There is no barber, salon or standalone hair menu in Fantasy Life i. Hair sits inside the same Change Appearance screen that handles your whole avatar, which is why searching the towns for a hairdresser turns up nothing. Level-5’s How to Enjoy Life on the Island page confirms that you edit your avatar “at the Guild anytime you wish.”

Until Chapter 3 sets up the Base Camp Guild Office, that option does not exist, so the only hairstyle choice before then is the one you made in the opening creator.

How to Change Your Hairstyle

  1. Travel to your Base Camp.
  2. Enter the Guild Office.
  3. Speak to Boyle.
  4. Select Change Appearance.
  5. Move to the hair section of the creator, pick a style, then confirm.

Player guides agree the change costs no Dosh or materials and has no cooldown, so you can try a style, look at it in the world, and come back to change it again. On PC, F10 opens the full keyboard and mouse control list, per the Version 1.4.0 patch notes. Since the full creator opens, you can adjust your face and body in the same visit; our appearance guide covers the rest of that screen.

How Many Hairstyles There Are

Player guides count 51 hairstyles available from the moment the option unlocks, with none locked by gender. That is the base pool; three sources add to it.

The Hair Catalogs

Level-5 added an in-game Guide entry called “Eye and Hair Catalogs” in Version 1.1.1, describing catalogs that “increase available eyes and hairstyles.” Player guides say Marco sells two Hair Catalogs and that owning both adds 12 hairstyles to the creator permanently.

The catch is the second one. Players on Steam’s forums report that Hair Catalog 2 only shows up in Marco’s stock once your Base Camp Bulletin Board reaches level 10, which means befriending a large share of the island’s residents. Players in that thread called it close to a completion reward. So while the first catalog is, per player guides, a regular purchase, the second is a long-term progression goal.

The Version 2.0 Hairstyles

The free Version 2.0 update, released in December 2025 alongside the Snoozaland roguelike area, added six new hairstyles as Avatar Parts. Level-5 names three of them: Wavy Long, Royal Twintails and Regal Ponytail. The community wiki lists Royal Twintails and Regal Ponytail in Snoozaland’s Dark Don’s Dreamy Deals shop, bought with Dream Points once the shop’s rating is high enough. We could not confirm where the remaining styles come from, so check the shop and Snoozaland rewards as you progress.

Snoozaland itself opens from a suspicious tent in the northeast of your Base Camp, which appears in Chapter 3 after the Guild Quests unlock, per the same patch notes.

Hair Accessories and Costumes

Headwear is separate from hairstyles. Version 1.4.0 added the Sweet Hairband alongside other fashion pieces, and Version 2.2.0 handed out the True Gentleman’s and Jibanyan costume packs from the Treasure Chest in the Eternia Village Guild Office. These are equipment, changed from your gear rather than through Boyle.

Tips Most Players Miss

  • Buy the first catalog early, plan for the second. The first widens your choices right away; the second arrives with late-game Bulletin Board progress.
  • Use Photo Mode to judge a style. Photo Mode was added to the Weird Pad in Version 1.5.0, and its camera controls give a far better look than the creator’s preview.
  • Restyle per Life. Changing is free, so a different look for your Angler days than your Paladin days costs nothing. Our fishing guide covers the Angler side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you change your hair in Fantasy Life i? Talk to Boyle in the Guild Office at your Base Camp and choose Change Appearance. The full character creator opens, including hair.

When does the hair option unlock? During Chapter 3, when the Guild Office at your Base Camp opens. Before that there is no way to restyle.

How many hairstyles are there? Player guides count 51 at the start and 12 more from the two Hair Catalogs. The Version 2.0 update then added six more as Avatar Parts.

Why can’t I buy the second Hair Catalog? Players report that Marco only stocks Hair Catalog 2 once your Bulletin Board reaches level 10, so it is tied to progress with the island’s residents rather than money.

Is there a barber or salon? No. All hair changes go through Boyle in the Guild Office.
