Fantasy Life i: How to Mount

Fantasy Life i official screenshot

Your first mount in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time is a camel, and it unlocks through the main story shortly after the plot sends you to Ginormosia, early in Chapter 2. To ride, open the Weird Pad, choose your active mount in the Mount menu, then press the summon button: ZL on Nintendo Switch.

This guide covers exactly when mounts unlock, the summon controls on every platform, how to get more mounts (including the ones added in free updates), and Pride of the Mount, the post-launch item that adds new riding moves. Changes are verified against official patch notes.

When You Get Your First Mount

Mounts are story-gated, and no side activity brings them forward. Per player walkthroughs, after the opening chapter you return to the present, reunite with Edward and head into the Depths, and an event then takes you to the continent of Ginormosia. The camel becomes available there. The community wiki ties the unlock to clearing main story step 2-11.

If you are still on foot, the fix is to push the main story rather than to hunt for a stable.

How to Summon and Switch Mounts

Setting your mount is a two-step job:

  1. Open the Weird Pad and go to the Mount menu. Pick the mount you want to appear.
  2. Out in the field, press the summon button to call it and hop on.

The summon button by platform:

  • Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: ZL.
  • Xbox: players on Steam’s forums report it is LB, the left bumper.
  • PlayStation: player guides list L1, the matching left shoulder button.
  • PC keyboard: Z, according to the same Steam forum thread. Press F10 at any time for the full keyboard and mouse control list, which Level-5 added in Version 1.4.0.

Controller users on PC have reported the game sometimes shows keyboard prompts, so if nothing on screen tells you the summon button, try the left bumper or Z.

A few places block mounts. The Tropica Isles have no-mount zones, and Level-5 fixed those zones being larger than intended in Version 1.3.1. The community wiki also notes mounts cannot swim, so you dismount at water.

Pride of the Mount: The Upgrade Added After Launch

The biggest change to riding since launch came in Version 1.5.0 (August 2025), which added an item called Pride of the Mount. Per the patch notes, once you own it, mount performance improves in three ways:

  • Faster movement while dashing
  • Double jump unlocked
  • Cliff climbing unlocked

You get it as a reward for completing a quest from Monsieur Cobra in the West Dryridge Desert on Ginormosia. Level-5’s notes describe it as boosting mount performance without naming any single mount, so it is worth grabbing before chasing new mounts.

How to Get More Mounts

The camel is only the start. Community lists show mounts coming from:

  • Shops, bought with Dosh or Cashnut
  • Enemy drops, at low drop rates
  • Alchemist crafting recipes
  • Bonus mounts, collected from the Treasure Chest in the Eternia Village Guild Office. The Pegasus is one; Level-5 swapped it in for a Unicorn distributed by mistake in Version 1.3.2.
  • Snoozaland’s Dark Don’s Dreamy Deals shop, paid in Dream Points

Free updates keep adding to the pool. The Version 2.0 update (December 2025) added five mounts, including the Cow and Mohawkasaurus, and Version 2.1 (February 2026) added six more, including Delivery Robot 2, Genbu and the Greater Sea Beetle Ball. Version 2.1 also fixed the acquisition info for Dreamy Deals mounts not displaying correctly.

As for which one to pick: community data shows all mounts sharing the same movement speeds, so the choice comes down to looks. Nobody is at a disadvantage riding the starter camel, especially once Pride of the Mount is unlocked.

Tips Most Players Miss

  • Get Pride of the Mount early in Ginormosia. Double jump and cliff climbing change how you cross the map more than any mount swap does.
  • Turn on the far camera. A June 2025 update added a “Camera Operation (Normal / Far)” option, and Version 1.5.0 extended it to Base Camp, making towers and targets easier to spot at riding speed.
  • Ignore mount tier lists. Without stat differences, there is nothing to rank.

Mounts pay off most for gathering Lives that send you across the map, like fishing, while farming keeps you closer to Base Camp. Our full Fantasy Life i guides hub covers the rest.
