Luck in Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered is a stat that raises the chance of common pickups dropping, mainly meat buns and other small power-ups, when you defeat enemies. It does not decide how strong your rare items and weapons are. That is a separate, hidden system driven by your combos, and it is the one players mean when they talk about “limit-broken” items.
The two get mixed up constantly, so this guide splits them. Koei Tecmo’s materials for DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered do not explain either system, so what follows comes from the original game’s documentation and from remaster players on the Steam forums, labeled as we go.
The Luck Stat
Every officer has a Luck value on their status screen, alongside Life, Musou, Attack and Defense. In the original Dynasty Warriors 3, Luck “increases the chance of meat buns and other common items dropping,” according to long-standing fan documentation of the original game. Long-time players add that its effect was always hard to see, and some believe it also nudges item quality, though that was never confirmed.
How to raise it:
- Seven Star Orb. This blue item raises Luck. In the original it ranged up to +20; remaster players report items now break past their old caps, so higher rolls may exist.
- Weapons with a Luck bonus. Many weapons carry Luck as one of their stat bonuses. Several fourth weapons in the original had Luck bonuses in the +22 to +30 range.
- Weapon Fusion. Koei Tecmo says Fusion transfers skills from one weapon to another, so a Luck bonus can move onto the weapon you actually use.
Is Luck Worth Raising?
For most players, no. Attack, Defense, Life and Musou matter far more for surviving Hard and the Xtreme Legends difficulty Chaos. Luck is a farming stat, useful in an item-farming loadout and little else.
The Hidden System: Combos and Item Quality
This is the part people are really searching for. Blue items roll a value when they drop, and remaster players report that your combos during a stage push that value higher.
What players have pieced together in the first week:
- Small combos upgrade small drops. One player reports that a combo of about 8 to 10 hits upgrades a +1 stat drop from a gate captain to a +2, and that bigger combos upgrade bigger drops further. Older notes from the original suggest around 16 hits to turn a +2 into a +4 and 24 for a +4 into a +8.
- Perfect combos unlock limit-broken items. Several players say that landing enough perfect combos during a stage lets the items you collect afterward roll above the original caps. Reported examples include a +75 Peacock Urn, +75 Dragon Amulet, +50 Tortoise Amulet and +24 Tiger Amulet.
- The thresholds are disputed. One player says 10 perfect combos max it out; another says it is a combo-point total of about 1,000 on Chaos and 1,500 on Hard. Treat both as early reports.
- Within the limit-broken range, the roll is random. A veteran of the original wrote that perfect combos only allow limit-broken items, and hitting the very top value is “real world luck.”
Because the system is hidden, nothing on screen tells you when you have reached it. Most players simply build combos for the first part of a stage and collect items afterward.
How to Farm High-Value Items
- Pick a farming stage. Players report the old favorite, the Battle of Shi Ting on the Wu side (You Ting in the original English release), still works, and that Raid on the Rogue Fortress drops five weapons and five items per run.
- Equip your farming gear. A Seven Star Orb and any Luck-bonus weapon help with common drops.
- Build combos before collecting. Land your long combos first, then pick up items. Players report dropped items no longer despawn in the remaster, so you can leave them on the ground until your combos are done.
- Know when the roll happens. Players report an item’s value is decided when you pick it up, and the game autosaves at the results screen. If you want a reroll, you need to quit before the results screen saves.
