Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It unlocked worldwide at 12 PM EDT on October 14, 2026, and developer Auroch Digital followed minutes later with a “Play Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Now!” post on Steam listing the changes it made after the free demo.
The Details
Auroch calls the full release “a game shaped by you,” built on feedback from the Steam demo that has been live since May. The changes it lists:
- Bolt Pistol: magazine capacity raised from 6 to 8 rounds.
- Ice World: the blizzard is less severe.
- Nyra’s Bolt Pistol: you can now melee while reloading it.
- Malum’s Charge: it now knocks enemies back.
- Bolt Pistol machine spirit: reworked after players called it too slow. Auroch will only say it is “a big fan of the new version.”
- Chainsword: an unpleasant noise it made is fixed.
The rest matches what Auroch and publisher Big Fan Games promised before launch: two playable characters (Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath), a branching campaign of more than 30 levels, 40+ new enemies from all four Chaos gods, an automap, a new Undying Mode accessibility option and a Mick Gordon guest track. On Steam it now costs the full $24.99, because the 10% pre-order discount ended at launch.
Early player reception is strong. About four hours after launch, the Steam store’s review summary read “Very Positive,” with 82 of 85 user reviews recommending it, a small sample that will move as more players finish the campaign. Auroch has not posted separate day-one patch notes, and it asks players to report bugs through the form linked on its official FAQ.
What This Means for Players
If you tried the demo and found the Bolt Pistol weak or the ice level hard to read, those are exactly the complaints Auroch says it acted on. Choose your character with care: you play the whole campaign as either Malum or Nyra, as our Boltgun 2 release time guide explains alongside prices on every store.
Switch 2 owners are still waiting. The FAQ, now updated for launch, still says only that the Switch 2 version arrives “shortly after the other platforms,” with no date. Our Boltgun 2 Switch and Game Pass guide covers where that leaves Nintendo, Game Pass and PS Plus players.
Auroch’s launch post also points to its next release, Warhammer Survivors, due on Steam on November 10. For more Warhammer 40,000 action in the meantime, our Space Marine 2 guides cover the bigger third-person shooter, and Boltgun 2 sits on our list of the biggest games of October 2026.
