A Microsoft Store page for Shrek 2 Remastered went live on October 16, 2026, revealing a remaster of the 2004 movie tie-in from Aspyr, which the Xbox store listing names as both developer and publisher. The page promises rebuilt visuals, new features and co-op for up to four players, but no price or release date.

The Details

The listing describes the game as “the cult-classic, button-mashing co-op adventure” and follows the film from Shrek’s swamp to the castle of Far Far Away, letting you swap between Shrek heroes to fight, beat bosses and solve puzzles. What it says has changed:

  • Visuals: “Everything has been rebuilt with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution and cutscenes.”
  • Photo Mode, for “timeless snapshots.”
  • Cheat Mode, to unlock cheats “to make your playthrough a seamless experience.”
  • Co-op for up to four players, as couch co-op, online, or a mix of both, plus solo play. The page also lists Xbox cross-platform co-op.

The page lists Xbox Series X|S, an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+ for Fantasy Violence and Comic Mischief, and an install size of about 13.85 GB. Its trailer is titled “Shrek 2 Pre-Order Trailer,” but there is no price and no way to pre-order yet.

The 2004 console original was developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision on PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. Aspyr has not named any platform other than Xbox, and as of this writing neither it nor Microsoft has announced the game beyond this store page.

What This Means for Players

If you played Shrek 2 on the couch with siblings in 2004, this is the version built for that again, with online play added so friends do not have to be in the same room. Cheat Mode and Photo Mode suggest Aspyr is pitching it as a relaxed, family-friendly co-op game rather than a challenge.
