Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave: How Weapon Durability Works

Weapons in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave have durability, but the crucial detail is this: normal attacks do not reduce it. Only Combat Arts do. And a broken weapon is not destroyed, it can be repaired at the blacksmith, exactly as in Three Houses.

Why That One Rule Changes Everything

If you have played older Fire Emblem games, the instinct is to hoard good weapons and fight with junk to preserve them. That instinct is wrong here.

Because ordinary attacks are free, you can use your best weapon in every battle indefinitely without spending anything. Durability only becomes a resource when you start using Combat Arts, the stronger weapon-proficiency skills that trade durability for higher damage, hit or crit.

So the real decision is not which weapon to carry, it is when a Combat Art is worth the repair bill. Against a boss or a unit you need to kill this turn, usually yes. To finish off a weakened enemy a normal attack would handle, no.

Where to Repair and Forge

The blacksmith is in Dagsion’s Shopping Arcade, and it unlocks at Renown level 4. Until you reach that, broken weapons simply stay broken, which is a good reason to push Renown early. Our Renown guide covers raising it.

The blacksmith handles three things:

  • Repair of broken or worn weapons
  • Refining and forging for stat improvements
  • Purchases

Both repair and forging cost gold plus materials, with rarer weapons requiring rarer materials. The menus show you exactly what a given job needs before you commit.

Where Materials Come From

Materials are gathered out on the world map: crates, mining spots, mineral deposits, and dungeons. Named materials in circulation include Smithing Stone, Cullet, Sunstone and Blue Snoll, though specific location lists for these are not well established yet, so treat any map of them cautiously.

Because gathering costs time on the world map, and time is the scarce resource in this game, it is worth collecting materials as you pass them rather than making dedicated trips. Our gold guide covers funding the other half of the bill.

There is also a blacksmith discount Boon, which reduces both repair and purchase prices. If you carry Boons between runs, that one pays for itself.
