Third parties tampered with files in the Windows PC launcher for Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, potentially letting malicious programs run on players’ PCs, publisher Level Infinite confirmed in three official notices on November 4, 2026. Anyone who opened the Windows launcher at least once since September 27 is asked to run a security check, and the publisher says the mobile version was not affected.
The Details
Level Infinite’s timeline, converted to Eastern time:
- September 27, 2:41 AM EDT: after a domain used by some of its services (
insightjs.com) was hijacked, the launcher’s script files were partly tampered with. - October 29, 2:52 PM EDT: distribution of malicious programs to players’ PCs began through that script.
- November 3: the team spotted the problem around 10 AM EST, replaced three bad script files by 12:23 PM EST, and refreshed the last one across its download network that night.
The publisher says the launcher it distributes now is safe to use. Since November 4 at 6 PM EST (3 PM PST), the official PC client scans for the malicious programs as it starts. Close every browser, Chrome included, before launching it. If something is found, a pop-up asks permission to delete the related logs, DLL files and registry entries.
For anyone who no longer has the launcher, a manual security check guide starts with the file Launcher\intl_service\debug.log in the NIKKE install folder. If a search of it finds the text “k2f_chan registered,” a malicious program may have run, and the guide walks through deleting one registry entry, one DLL folder, a download log and the launcher’s tbs_cache folder. A clean log does not fully rule out risk, the publisher adds.
What This Means for Players
If you play on mobile only, there is nothing to do. If you use the Windows launcher, follow the official steps, then, from a clean device, change the passwords for every account you used on that PC and replace any API keys or access tokens stored on it. Level Infinite also recommends an up-to-date full antivirus scan and a Microsoft Defender Offline Scan.
Anyone who lost money or had other accounts affected can report it to NIKKE’s Customer Support. All Commanders also get in-game compensation as an apology, though the notice does not say what it is.
Our 4th Anniversary update news covers what arrived on October 29. Developer Shift Up also makes Stellar Blade, where our guides cover the Bayonetta outfits and the Switch 2 version’s performance.
