Sims 2: How to Become a PlantSim

To become a PlantSim in The Sims 2, spray pesticide on your garden over and over: after roughly ten sprays, each additional spray carries about a 10 percent chance of transforming the gardener into a leafy green PlantSim. It comes with the Seasons expansion. Here is how to trigger it deliberately, live with the three strange needs, and undo it.

Step-by-Step: Going Green

  1. Plant a garden. Seasons’ gardening system provides trees and crop plots; any spray-able plants work.
  2. Let bugs happen (or don’t wait). Infestations prompt the Spray Pesticide interaction, and you can keep spraying liberally.
  3. Spray about ten times with the same adult or elder Sim. Only adults and elders can transform.
  4. Keep spraying. Every spray past the threshold rolls roughly a 10 percent chance; within a handful more, the Sim turns green, grows leafy hair, and becomes a PlantSim.

The numbers are community-established from years of testing, but the method is beautifully consistent: pesticide abuse equals photosynthesis.

The Three PlantSim Needs

PlantSims replace the usual eight needs with three:

  • Sunlight (their Energy): filled outdoors between 7 AM and 7 PM, or under a grow light indoors.
  • Water (their Hunger): watering themselves, rain, or sprinklers.
  • Love (their Social): normal socializing.

No Bladder, no Hygiene, no Comfort. A PlantSim gardener is close to a perpetual motion machine, which is why they were the farming meta of 2007.

PlantSim Babies and Aging

PlantSims reproduce asexually: an adult can spawn a PlantBaby (a toddler-stage sprout), and PlantSims age from toddler directly to adult, skipping child and teen entirely. Family trees get delightfully strange.

The Cure: Plantophic-C

Buy Plantophic-C from a Garden Club member or from the Gypsy Matchmaker and drink it; the Sim reverts to a normal human with the standard needs. (Do not go looking for a machine to fix this; the potion is the cure in Sims 2.)

Tips Most Players Miss

  • Grow lights make night shifts viable. A greenhouse with lights keeps Sunlight topped up around the clock.
  • PlantSims excel at, well, plants: they talk to plants for Social AND garden bonuses, and pair naturally with an orchard business.
  • Full occult household: combine with our vampire, werewolf, and witch guides for the complete Sims 2 monster mash; the whole catalog lives in the Sims hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can teens or children become PlantSims? No, only adults and elders transform via pesticide; PlantBabies are how young PlantSims exist.

Is the transformation bad for the Sim? Mechanically it is mostly an upgrade: three easy needs, gardening bonuses; the trade-off is the look and the odd life cycle.

What happens if a PlantSim never gets sunlight? Sunlight functions as Energy, so deprivation knocks them out like exhaustion; grow lights are the insurance.

Does this work in the Legacy Collection? Yes, Seasons ships in the Legacy Collection, pesticide sprayer and all.
