How Traits Work in The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, traits are divided into several categories:

  1. Personality Traits: These affect your Sim’s overall behavior and preferences.
  2. Reward Traits: Earned through completing aspirations or achieving certain milestones.
  3. Bonus Traits: Automatically assigned based on a Sim’s aspiration.
  4. Child Traits: Specifically available for child Sims, influencing their development.

Emotional Traits
  • Active: Sims with this trait enjoy physical activities and stay energized longer.
  • Cheerful: These Sims are often in a good mood and spread happiness to others.
  • Creative: Creative Sims gain inspiration more easily and excel in creative skills.
  • Gloomy: Prone to sadness, but can gain a boost from melancholic moods.
  • Goofball: These Sims love to joke around and can get playful easily.
  • Hot-Headed: Quick to anger, but also quick to recover.
Hobby Traits
  • Art Lover: These Sims appreciate art and enjoy making it.
  • Bookworm: Sims who love reading and gain fun from books faster.
  • Foodie: Enjoys cooking and eating high-quality meals.
  • Geek: Sims who love gaming, sci-fi, and become focused when playing games.
  • Music Lover: Gains fun and inspiration from listening to music.
  • Perfectionist: Takes longer to finish tasks, but has a higher quality outcome.
Lifestyle Traits
  • Ambitious: These Sims gain powerful moodlets from career success.
  • Childish: Enjoys toys and playing with children.
  • Clumsy: Prone to physical accidents.
  • Glutton: Enjoys eating and rarely feels full.
  • Insider: Enjoys being part of clubs and social groups.
  • Loner: Prefers solitude but can be happy in social interactions when necessary.
  • Materialistic: Enjoys buying new things and admiring possessions.
  • Neat: Enjoys cleaning and gets stressed when surrounded by mess.
  • Slob: Does not mind messes and dislikes cleaning.
  • Snob: Prefers high-quality items and socializing with upper-class Sims.
Social Traits
  • Bro: Enjoys hanging out with other bros.
  • Evil: Enjoys causing misery to others.
  • Family-Oriented: Gains happiness from family interactions and children.
  • Good: Enjoys helping others and dislikes evil Sims.
  • Hates Children: Dislikes being around children.
  • Mean: Enjoys being mean to others.
  • Noncommittal: Dislikes long-term relationships and careers.
  • Outgoing: Gains energy from social interactions.
  • Romantic: Enjoys romantic interactions and falls in love easily.

Reward Traits

Reward traits are earned by completing aspirations or achieving certain milestones. Some notable reward traits include:

  • Mentor: Can mentor others in skills they have mastered.
  • Savant: Learns skills faster than other Sims.
  • Steel Bladder: Rarely needs to use the bathroom.
  • Independent: Needs less social interaction to stay happy.

Bonus Traits

Bonus traits are automatically assigned based on a Sim’s aspiration. For example:

  • Quick Learner: Aspiration-related, helps Sims learn skills faster.
  • Muser: Aspiration-related, boosts creativity.

Child Traits

Child Sims can choose from a limited set of traits that influence their development:

  • Rambunctious Scamp: Enjoys physical activities and gains motor skills quickly.
  • Social Butterfly: Builds social skills quickly and enjoys making friends.
