Valve is replacing the hand-scheduled Daily Deals, Midweek Deals and Weekend Deals on Steam with a personalized Discounts and Events section. It has already stopped booking new curated slots, it told developers in a Steamworks announcement on September 29, 2026. The full switch is planned for early 2027.
What Is Changing
Right now, the Discounts and Events section on Steam’s homepage shows “curated placements that are either scheduled directly by partners via Steamworks, or by us”. That is how a game ends up as a Daily Deal or a Weekend Deal.
Valve says it will instead “move away from a manual calendar-based approach and into something more dynamic and personalized for each customer”. Its reasoning: more discounted games “will have the chance to be visible on the homepage and elsewhere on Steam, rather than be limited by a small, fixed number of slots.”
Valve has already tested it. According to the announcement, “we were able to show 10x more games to customers in a given day in that section”, with “meaningful increases in store page visits, wishlists, and cart additions.”
For developers:
- New bookings are paused. “We have paused scheduling curated placements in that section (Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals).”
- Existing bookings stand. Deals already scheduled “will be honored and you don’t need to take any action”.
- The calendar ends next year. “Sometime early next year we will fully cease using a curated calendar for the Discounts and Events Section.”
- New discount tools are coming, so developers aren’t spending time “trying to convince someone at Valve to feature their products.”
What This Means for Players
The Discounts and Events row will stop being the same short list for everyone and start showing deals picked for you, based on what Valve’s systems think you want. Valve hasn’t said exactly which signals it uses, but its own test results point to wishlists and store visits. Keeping your wishlist up to date is the simplest way to make sure the games you want show up when they’re discounted.
The announcement doesn’t mention Steam’s big seasonal sales or Next Fest, so there is no sign those are changing. If you’re shopping this week’s launches, our upcoming releases list covers what is out and when. Two of today’s biggest Steam stories are The Witcher 3’s new player record and Transport Fever 3’s launch.
When and Where
Curated bookings are paused now, and the personalized section is due in early 2027. Valve says it doesn’t “have a definite date for implementing these changes” and will share more about timing “in the upcoming weeks”.
