Inzoi: How to Get a Pet

inZOI official screenshot

As of the current build, you cannot get a pet in Inzoi: there is no adoption, purchase or household pet system, and none of the ten major updates since Early Access launched in March 2025 has added one. What you can do is fill your city with animals through the City Appearance feature and feed the cats and pandas you meet, which is more than the 2025 version of this guide gave the game credit for. Below we cover exactly what the developer has said about pets, what animals exist today, how to interact with them, and the adoption feature that does exist (it is for children, not puppies).

We checked every patch note and weekly developer letter published on Steam from the Early Access launch through the v0.10.4 hotfix of September 16, 2026. Pets are mentioned only as a request, never as a shipped or dated feature.

What the developer has said about pets

Before launch, the inZOI team answered the question directly in its March 2025 Discord AMA: no pets at Early Access launch, pets are “a high priority for future updates,” but proper pet interactions “require extensive development.” That is still the official position. The two 2026 roadmap posts from late December 2025 and early January 2026 lay out the year’s priorities under the banner “Fundamentals First”, covering autonomy, careers, school, driving and animation quality, and pets do not appear on either list.

Pets do keep appearing in the weekly community summaries, which is how we know the studio hears the request. Director Kjun’s letters in January, March and April 2026 all list pets among player suggestions, the April post filing them under “Animals (pets and farm animals)” alongside university campuses and police chases. The most recent developer post, from September 18, 2026, says the October mini update focuses on autonomy and conversation quality. No pet system is on the announced schedule.

So the honest answer is: pets are acknowledged, wanted, and undated. Anyone quoting a release window for them is guessing.

Animals you can have in your city right now

Inzoi’s cities are not animal-free. The City Appearance feature, reached from the city map, lets you populate public spaces with roaming animals. Cats and pandas are confirmed by the developer’s own patch notes, and early player guides describe a wider pool that includes dogs, deer, raccoons, foxes, squirrels and crocodiles, with a cap on how many species can roam at once. We could not verify that full list or the cap against an official source, so treat the extra species as player-reported.

These animals wander parks, streets and commercial zones on their own. They do not live in your house, follow your Zoi or sleep on the bed, but they are not purely decorative either, which is the part the 2025 version of this guide got wrong.

How to interact with city animals

Your Zoi can feed the cats and pandas placed through City Appearance. Per the v0.1.5 hotfix notes from April 2025, feeding was originally locked behind a Karma condition as a “positive action,” and the team removed that requirement so anyone can feed animals at any time. Walk your Zoi up to an animal, click it, and pick the feeding interaction if it is offered.

Feeding no longer moves your Karma, per the same note. If you are chasing a better score, our guide on how to increase Karma in Inzoi covers the actions that still count.

Early player guides also mention pet-themed decor in Build Mode, such as cat wheels and scratching posts, that no animal actually uses. We could not confirm those items in the current catalog, so search Build Mode for yourself if you want to stage a pet corner ahead of time.

The adoption that does exist

If you searched “inzoi adopt” hoping for a puppy, the game does have adoption, but it is for children. The v0.2.0 update in June 2025 added Adopt a Child: use a computer or laptop, open the Adopt a Child menu, and any Zoi who meets the age and property requirements can bring a new family member home without the Make a Baby route. Our guide on how to have a baby in Inzoi covers both paths.

That same update also added animal-adjacent flavour elsewhere: Zois gained a Washing Cars preference, and later patches added fishing, farming and a crowd ecosystem, but still no animal that belongs to your household.

What to do while you wait

Set up your city with City Appearance animals, keep a stocked kitchen so feeding is always an option, and watch the weekly developer posts on the Steam news feed, where any pet announcement would land first. The studio’s stated priority order is base-game fundamentals first, then the PlayStation 5 version planned for the first half of 2027, so a pet system would most likely follow a full update rather than arrive as a hotfix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you adopt a dog or cat in Inzoi? No. As of the September 2026 build there is no pet adoption, purchase or ownership. The only adoption in the game is Adopt a Child, added in June 2025.

Are pets confirmed for a future update? The developer called pets a high priority before launch and continues to list them among player requests, but no update, date or window has been announced.

Can my Zoi interact with animals at all? Yes. Cats and pandas placed through City Appearance can be fed by any Zoi, with no Karma requirement since the v0.1.5 hotfix.

Will pets come with the PS5 version? Nothing official links the two. The PS5 release is planned for the first half of 2027 and is described as the base game, not a feature drop.

Do the pet beds and scratching posts do anything? Early player guides say they are decor only. We could not confirm they are still in the catalog, and no patch note has ever attached a function to them.
