The developer’s official fixes for Silent Hill: Townfall on PC are short: turn off Ray Tracing if you crash on an AMD graphics card, update your Nvidia driver if you crash on Nvidia, and disable Steam Input if controller buttons trigger twice. They come from a pinned “Troubleshooting Steps for Commonly Reported Issues” post by the game’s developer account on the Steam forums, dated September 26.
Konami’s promised performance patch had not shipped as of September 29, 2026. Below are the official fixes, the stutter explanation, and what PS5 players have reported. This guide will be updated when the patch lands.
Official Fixes from the Developer
The pinned Steam post, from the “Annapurna Community” developer account (Annapurna Interactive co-publishes Townfall with Konami), lists three fixes:
- Double inputs on a controller (for example, interact firing twice): open the game’s Properties in your Steam Library, go to Controller, and disable Steam Input for Townfall, then restart. The post calls this “a known Steam issue which is fixed in the current Steam Beta.”
- Repeated crashes on AMD GPUs: disable Ray Tracing in the game’s Options menu. The developer calls this a temporary workaround while it investigates with AMD.
- Crashes on Nvidia GPUs: install the latest Nvidia driver before launching. The post says older drivers have known issues with new releases, Townfall included.
A fourth official fix came on launch day. Konami posted on Steam that pre-order and Deluxe Edition DLC failing to unlock had been fixed server-side: exit the game, make sure you are online, and restart Steam. If your cosmetics are still missing, our alternate outfit guide shows where they appear.
Stutter and Shader Compilation
Townfall is an Unreal Engine 5 game, and DSOGaming, Wccftech and Notebookcheck all report the same cause for most stutter: the game compiles only part of its shaders at launch and finishes the rest while you play, causing CPU spikes and hitching as you move between areas. Wccftech adds that the compile progress pop-up only appears if you launch or load a save while compilation is still running.
What helps, according to those outlets and player reports:
- Let the first compile finish at the main menu before loading a save.
- Expect a recompile after a driver update. One Steam user reported a new shader compile after updating their Nvidia driver, and the stutter stopped once it finished.
- Leave Nvidia Reflex off. Wccftech found it caused severe stutter in its testing.
- Cap the frame rate a little under your refresh rate. Sportskeeda suggests 58 to 60 fps for steadier frame times.
- Use an upscaler. The game supports DLSS, FSR and Unreal’s TSR, but no native frame generation and no XeSS, per Wccftech and DSOGaming.
Wccftech measured a 34% average frame rate gain from its tuned settings (Fog Low, Shadows Medium, Post-processing Low and Textures Ultra on 8 GB or more of video memory, among others). DSOGaming found hardware ray tracing actually ran faster than the software fallback on its system, so try Ray Tracing On if you are not on an AMD card that crashes with it. Other Reported Problems
- Frequent crashes. TheGamer quoted Steam reviews reporting crashes every 15 to 30 minutes at launch. If the official fixes above do not help, verify the game files in Steam.
- Puzzle soft-locks. Tom’s Guide’s review hit a late puzzle that glitched into an unsolvable state until a reload fixed it, and Steam users have reported similar blocks. Reload your last save before assuming you are wrong, and check the answer against our codes guide or the Remote Systems Control solution. Our saving guide explains how to keep several manual saves.
- Keybinds not applying. Wccftech reported remapped keys sometimes failing to take effect.
- Motion sickness. Players recommend raising the field of view, turning off head bob and motion blur, and turning on a larger center dot; our third-person guide covers the comfort settings.
PS5 Problems and the Performance Patch
PS5 has fewer reports. Tom’s Guide, playing on a PS5 Pro, noted frame drops in hectic combat and a black screen during one cutscene. Our PS5 performance guide covers the Quality and Performance modes.
On launch day, Konami posted on Steam: “We are currently working on an update patch to address performance-related issues affecting the Steam version.” The official Silent Hill account on X gave the same notice and named the Epic Games Store version too. No release date has been given. As of September 29, Steam’s public build data still shows the pre-launch build from September 21, and Notebookcheck noted the patch had not arrived in the first week.
Is there a photo mode? Not at launch. GamesRadar’s review noted “it doesn’t even have a photo mode,” and Konami has not announced one.
