The Remote Systems Control puzzle in Silent Hill: Townfall asks you to recreate what the operator did, step by step: for each action, press a command symbol, then an equipment symbol, then type the ID number shown on the matching CCTV camera or document, then ENTER. The button positions are the same in every guide, but the ID numbers are not, and AltChar reports that “a few of the IDs appear to shuffle between playthroughs.” So read each ID from your own game rather than copying one.
This is the late-game symbol puzzle many reviewers called the hardest in the game. It takes place in Chapter 15, in the changed version of the SWDP facility. Below: the method, a step table, and the two puzzles that come right after it. No story events are described.
How the Console Works
The console narrates a log of what the operator (the “NSO”) did. Each line of the log is one action you must repeat. Every action has three parts:
- The command (open, start, flush, stop, unlock), one symbol button.
- The equipment (a valve, a filter, an auxiliary line, the regulator, a door), a second symbol button.
- The ID, the three-digit number printed on that piece of equipment. You find it by checking the named CCTV camera, or on a paper beside the console.
Press ENTER after each action. GameRant, Hardcore Gamer and PowerPyx all describe the puzzle this way.
Step Table
Button positions below use the column and row numbering the guides use for the symbol grid, and they match across GameRant, Hardcore Gamer, AltChar and PowerPyx.
| Action | Command button | Equipment button | Where to read the ID |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open Valve B | Column 1, row 1 | Column 3, row 2 | CAM 005, the Valves A-C room |
| Start Filter A | Column 1, row 2 | Column 4, row 3 | CAM 000, the Filter Unit desk |
| Flush Aux Line B | Column 2, row 2 | Column 4, row 4 | The paper to the right of the console |
| Stop Regulator | Column 1, row 4 | Column 3, row 4 | CAM 002, the Regulator Systems wall |
| Unlock Valve F door | Column 2, row 4 | Column 3, row 1 | CAM 004, the Valves D-F room |
Only two IDs are the same in every guide: Flush Aux Line B uses 246 and the Valve F door uses 592. For the other three, outlets print digit-swapped versions of the same numbers (for example, one guide’s 254 is another’s 245), which is exactly what a per-playthrough shuffle would produce. Zoom in on the camera feed, read the number carefully, and enter it as shown.
After you complete Start Filter A, the console gives you locker code 0825 for the AUX Key, which every guide agrees on.
Optional Doors (New Game Plus Collectibles)
The same console can unlock side doors. PowerPyx lists three door IDs, 621, 047 and 793. On a first run these are optional. In New Game Plus they matter: room 621 holds one of the Strange Books and room 793 holds the Gold Coin, both needed for the secret endings covered in our ending requirements guide (spoilers below its warning line). If a door ID fails, check it on a camera the same way as the main steps.
After the Valve F door opens, go and turn the red Valve F wheel.
What Comes Next: The Auxiliary Lines
Load the AUX Disk in the computer to see a diagram of the lines. Hardcore Gamer’s rule: a vertical line in the diagram means the valve points up, a horizontal line means it points sideways. Each line’s light turns green when it is correct, so you can work one line at a time.
GameRant and KeenGamer report these switch states, but given the ID shuffle next door, match the diagram on your own disk if they do not line up:
- Single-stripe line, right to left: U D U U D U D U U
- Double-stripe line, right to left: U D D D U D D U U
- Triple-stripe line, left to right: D U U U D U D U
The Last Puzzle: Clamp Release Procedure
Print the Clamp Release Procedure sheet at the console and follow it. Per GameRant, KeenGamer and PowerPyx:
- Pressure Control: SET
- Notify Self and All: ON
- Balance Tension L and R: Intermediate
- Run Off: Disengaged
- Intubate Flow: None
- Clamp Connection: D71 (stenciled on the clamp arms)
- Report: switches 1, 3 and 6 only
- Battery One: B (up); Battery Two: C (right)
- Protection: any setting
Press the green RELEASE button, then turn the red crank downstairs. PowerPyx notes this is the final puzzle in the game, so stock up and save before moving on; our final boss guide covers what follows.
If You Are Still Stuck
- Switch to Hinted puzzle difficulty. It highlights relevant documents and shows key clues in red, and the in-game text confirms it does not change the solution. Our difficulty guide explains the settings.
- Reload if nothing responds. Tom’s Guide hit a late puzzle that glitched into an unsolvable state until a reload.
- Save first. A phone is nearby; dial 100.
