To Prestige in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, earn enough XP to complete Level 55, the max player level, then choose to enter Prestige from Career > Progression > Prestige. You drop back to Level 1 with your Level Unlocks relocked, but you keep your weapon levels, camos, Operators and challenge progress, and after ten Prestiges you reach Prestige Master, where the cap rises to Level 1,000.
Prestige is optional, it is shared across every mode, and the first thing to plan is your Permanent Unlock. Here is the full process, what you lose, and how the grind looks as of Season 06.
How to Prestige, Step by Step
- Earn XP in any mode. Your player level is global. XP from the Co-Op Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies and, since Season 01, Warzone all feeds the same level, from Private I (Level 1) to Commander (Level 55).
- Complete Level 55. In Activision’s words, completing Level 55 earns you “the choice to begin your Prestige journey.”
- Open Career > Progression > Prestige and choose to Prestige. Nothing happens automatically, so you decide when.
- Collect the instant reward. Entering a Prestige records the date and grants a reward on the spot, including a Permanent Unlock.
- Level from 1 to 55 again to reach the next Prestige, and repeat through Prestige 10.
Double XP tokens shorten every lap. If you are hoarding them, Activision has said existing tokens will also work in Modern Warfare 4, where they only count down during matches, as our Double XP token story explains.
What Resets and What You Keep
Activision’s progression support page spells out exactly what happens when you Prestige.
What resets:
- Your player level, back to Level 1.
- Every Level Unlock (weapons, equipment, perks, wildcards, scorestreaks and the rest) relocks and has to be earned again.
- Your loadouts.
- Combat stats start fresh for each Prestige, though lifetime stats stay viewable in the Combat Record.
What you keep:
- Weapon progression, camos, reticles and weapon builds.
- Challenge progress, challenge unlocks and Mastery Badges.
- Operators and Emotes.
- Anything from the Store, the Battle Pass, Weekly Challenges or seasonal events.
- Zombies GobbleGums.
- Any item with a Blueprint or skin, which stays permanently unlocked.
That last point is the useful one. A weapon you own a Blueprint for stays usable even while its base Level Unlock is relocked.
Permanent Unlocks and Prestige Rewards
Each Prestige hands you one Permanent Unlock, ten in total. Spend it on any Level Unlock item and that item never relocks again. You can use it from the Level Unlocks menu or while browsing items in your Loadouts, any time before you reach Prestige Master.
Activision’s own tip is worth following: think about a Field Upgrade, Wildcard or Perk rather than a gun, because those three cannot be obtained through the Battle Pass or the Store. Guns often come back through Blueprints anyway.
Every Prestige also has its own military theme, from Prestige 1’s Psyop Soldier to Prestige 10’s Death, with an icon and rewards at Levels 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 of that Prestige, including Operator Skins and Blueprints. On top of that you get:
- Prestige Challenges that unlock Calling Cards and pay XP.
- A bigger Daily Challenge bonus, an increased XP payout for finishing each day’s three Daily Challenges in a mode.
- Prestige Mastery, an animated Calling Card and a large XP bonus for completing every challenge in that Prestige.
Prestige Master and the Level 1,000 Cap
Finish Prestige 10 and you enter Prestige Master. Your level finally climbs past 55, all the way to Level 1,000, and nothing relocks from here on. Rewards come as you climb from 55 to Level 100 and then every 25 levels, and Activision’s launch blog still lists the final designation at Level 1,000 as classified.
Prestige Master also changes how you look to other players:
- You get the “Prestige Master” title and an orange level color.
- At Level 100 you can switch to navy blue and start Title Challenges, and another color option unlocks every 25 levels after that, including multi-color and animated ones.
- Every 100 levels opens a set of legacy Prestige icons from past Call of Duty games.
Seasons have added to this rather than changing the rules. Season 03 added 21 new Prestige Master Titles with challenges for players at Level 100 and above, and Season 06 added a final set, topped by “John Black Ops” for unlocking every other Prestige Master Title.
Weapon Prestige Is a Separate Track
Weapons have their own Prestige, back for the first time since Black Ops 4. Max out a weapon and you can enter Weapon Prestige 1, which resets that weapon’s level and relocks its attachments (optics excepted) but gives it a unique Prestige Attachment, a Permanent Unlock for one attachment and a universal camo. Weapon Prestige 2 adds another camo and another Permanent Unlock, and Weapon Prestige Master raises that weapon’s cap to Level 250 with every attachment permanently unlocked.
None of it touches your player Prestige, so you can run both at once. If you are coming back to the series after a break, our rundown of every Call of Duty game shows where Black Ops 7 sits.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many times can you Prestige in Black Ops 7? Ten times. After Prestige 10 you enter Prestige Master, where your level rises from 55 to a cap of 1,000.
Do you lose camos when you Prestige? No. Weapon levels, camos, reticles and builds all survive a Prestige. Only your player level, Level Unlocks, loadouts and per-Prestige stats reset.
Can you Prestige by playing only Warzone? Yes. Since Season 01, Warzone XP counts toward your Black Ops 7 level and Prestige, though Activision notes some Prestige rewards require the full game. Warzone ties into Modern Warfare 4 from that game’s Season 1, and our Warzone skin toggle story covers what happens to Black Ops 7 content there.
Do you have to Prestige as soon as you hit max level? No. Activision describes Prestige as a choice you earn by completing Level 55, not an automatic reset.
