To marry in Fields of Mistria, raise a romance candidate to 8 hearts and choose the romantic path in their 8-heart event, keep dating them until they reach 10 hearts, then craft the Engagement Ring whose recipe Elsie brings you and use it to propose. You pick a wedding date at least five days out, and your spouse moves onto the farm after the ceremony. Below we cover the candidates, how to raise hearts fast, the ring’s demanding recipe, the proposal and wedding, and what changes afterward.
Marriage arrived with the 1.0 update of Fields of Mistria on August 5, 2026, which raised the heart cap to 10 and added proposal events, weddings and children. Anything written during Early Access that says marriage is “coming later” is out of date, and so is anything describing the old 8-heart cap.
Who You Can Marry
Twelve villagers are marriage candidates, and a heart next to a name in dialogue (instead of a gem) marks one. These ten are the ones you meet in normal play:
- Bachelorettes: Celine, Juniper, Reina, Valen and Adeline
- Bachelors: Balor, March, Hayden, Ryis and Eiland
Two more candidates unlock only through the late main story. We are not naming them here, because who they are is itself a spoiler.
Step 1: Build Hearts to 8
Friendship comes mainly from gifts and conversation. You can give each villager one gift per day, and talking to someone once a day adds a small bonus on top. Per the community wiki, reaching 10 hearts takes 1,755 friendship points in total, and those points never decay, while disliked gifts simply earn nothing rather than costing you anything.
Candidates have heart events at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 hearts. Some need a story quest done first, so if an event is not triggering, check your quest log. Watching each event is required before the next one can play.
Step 2: Choose Romance in the 8-Heart Event
The 8-heart event ends with a choice: become Best Friends or start Dating. Pick Dating. Per the community wiki there is currently no way to switch a Best Friend onto the romantic route later, so choose carefully.
You can date as many candidates as you like at once, but you can marry only one. Once you are dating someone, Elsie drops by with tips and Date Inspiration items. Dates happen on Saturdays and Sundays, one per week per partner, and the 1.0 update made a date raise hearts more than it did before, so weekends are the fastest way from 8 to 10. You can also now interact with a partner to kiss them.
Step 3: Craft the Engagement Ring
The morning after a partner reaches 10 hearts, Elsie delivers the Engagement Ring recipe scroll. Use it to learn the recipe. This is where many couples stall, because the ring is a late-game craft:
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Diamond | 2 |
| Mistril Ingot | 4 |
| Gold Ingot | 4 |
| Dragon-Forged Core | 1 |
Per the community wiki, it takes Blacksmithing level 30 and is made at a forge. The Dragon-Forged Core is the hard part: it is crafted deep in the Mines and requires reaching the bottom floor, so push the Mines storyline alongside your romance instead of waiting until 10 hearts. Notably, the wiki says nothing else gates marriage: you do not need a particular house upgrade.
Step 4: Propose
- Hold the Engagement Ring and talk to your partner. A Discuss prompt appears.
- Watch the 10-heart event. Your partner gives you a unique keepsake item during it.
- Choose to propose or to postpone. Postponing keeps the ring usable, so you can replay the 10-heart events of everyone you are dating and collect every keepsake before committing to one person.
- Pick a wedding date. It must fall within the year, and the earliest option is five days after the proposal.
Before you confirm, open the gameplay settings. The engagement tutorial unlocks two options: one hides the break-up letters, and one stops your other partners from switching to Best Friends at all. The second only takes effect if you toggle it before confirming the engagement.
The Wedding and Married Life
In the days before the wedding, talk to your fiance to plan the ceremony: the flower color, the cake flavor and the meal served at the reception. On the day, you are taken to the guest room at the Sleeping Dragon Inn to choose a wedding outfit, which you keep. The ceremony fills the whole day, and the townsfolk water your crops and look after your animals.
Afterward, your spouse moves into your farmhouse with a new routine, and the next day three pieces of their personal furniture arrive in the mail (four if you married Juniper). About two weeks after the wedding, a dream gives you a Mystical Feather, which lets you raise the idea of having a child with your spouse. It is entirely optional, and your spouse never brings it up on their own. As of 1.0 there is no divorce.
If you like comparing how life sims handle this, our guides to getting married in Paralives and getting married in The Sims 4 show two very different takes. Back in Mistria, fish make easy everyday gifts, so our guides on how to fish and getting your first fishing rod pair well with a courtship.
Frequently Asked Questions
When was marriage added to Fields of Mistria? With the 1.0 update on August 5, 2026. Early Access builds stopped at 8 hearts and dating.
Can you date more than one person? Yes, with no limit, but you can marry only one. By default everyone else switches to Best Friends when you get engaged, unless you change that in the gameplay settings before confirming.
Why can’t I craft the Engagement Ring? It needs Blacksmithing level 30 and a Dragon-Forged Core, which requires reaching the deepest part of the Mines. Players who reach 10 hearts before finishing the Mines storyline have to wait on the core.
How long after proposing is the wedding? You choose the date yourself. The earliest option is five days after the proposal, and it has to fall within the year.
Can you get divorced in Fields of Mistria? Not as of version 1.0, and there is no word yet on whether it is planned.
Do you have to have children? No. The option appears about two weeks after the wedding, and it is entirely your choice.
