Minecraft Dungeons II is on the original Nintendo Switch but not on PS4: it launched September 29, 2026 on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. On Switch, the Switch 1 and Switch 2 releases are separate products, each $29.99 on Nintendo’s US store.

The Switch 1 Version: What to Know
Nintendo’s US store sells Minecraft Dungeons II for Nintendo Switch and a separate Nintendo Switch 2 version, both $29.99, each with a $49.99 Deluxe Edition. Per the Switch 1 listing:
- Play modes: TV, tabletop and handheld are all supported. Nintendo adds that “software compatibility and play experience may differ on Nintendo Switch Lite.”
- Players: one to four on a single system, and one to four online. Online play needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account, and Nintendo notes that “multiplayer requires one compatible controller per player.”
- Saves: Save Data Cloud is supported with Nintendo Switch Online.
- Storage: Nintendo’s US listing estimates 6.8 GB, and warns that sizes may not be final before release.
Switch 1 players are not cut off from friends elsewhere. Nintendo tags the game with cross-platform play, and Mojang confirms online co-op is cross-play, so a Switch 1 player can party up with PC, Xbox and PS5 players. Our co-op guide covers the online and offline hero choice that decides this.
One gap: neither Mojang nor Nintendo has published frame rate or resolution targets for either Switch version, and the launch reviews we found were played on Xbox Series X and PC. If performance on older hardware matters to you, look for early player reports on the Switch 1 version before buying.
Switch 2 Owners: Pick the Switch 2 Version
The Switch 1 version runs on Switch 2, but Nintendo’s compatibility note says “game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch,” meaning it plays as the Switch 1 game with no Switch 2 enhancements.

Why There Is No PS4 Version
Mojang’s platform list names PlayStation 5 only, and the PlayStation listing sells it as a PS5 game ($29.99, or $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition) with one to four players, PS Plus for online play and Remote Play support. Mojang has not announced a PS4 version or given a reason for skipping last-generation consoles. Per Xbox Wire, the sequel is built on Unreal Engine 5.
If you only own a PS4, you have two options:
- Play the original. The first Minecraft Dungeons is still sold for PS4. Playing it on your Microsoft account also counts toward the Hero Cape if you later sign in to Dungeons II before December 31, 2026; our capes guide explains the rules.
- Switch platforms. The PS5 and PC versions both have crossplay, so moving up does not split you from friends on other systems.
Xbox One: Only Through the Cloud
The Xbox Store lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and PC only, so there is nothing to install on an Xbox One. Streaming is the workaround. Xbox Wire’s Game Pass announcement lists Minecraft Dungeons II for “Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC” on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and Xbox Wire’s cloud gaming explainer says Xbox Cloud Gaming works on “Xbox One and later,” suggesting it as a way “to play newer Xbox Series X games on your trusty Xbox One.” Microsoft recommends at least 20 Mbps for cloud play.
Which Version Should You Buy
- Switch 1 only: the Switch version is your route; check early performance reports first.
- Switch 2: buy the Switch 2 version.
- PS4 only: there is no version; play the original or move to PS5 or PC.
- Xbox One: stream it with Game Pass Ultimate.
