Campaign early access for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 went live on Friday, October 16, 2026, when Activision posted at 10 AM PT (1 PM ET) that “Campaign Early Access is officially live” in its launch announcement. Anyone with a digital pre-order can play all sixteen missions now, a week before the full game launches on October 23.
The Details
Who gets in. “All players who digitally pre-order or pre-purchase Modern Warfare 4 can access the game’s entire Campaign,” Activision says. That covers the Standard Digital Edition and the Vault Edition on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Activision lists both early windows under its digital editions only, so a disc pre-order does not count.
How to start. Pre-order a digital edition on the platform you play on, launch the game and pick Campaign. Access runs “all the way up until the official launch date.”
What you play. Private Park Hyun Jun’s squad fights an invasion of the Korean Peninsula while John Price hunts “the one pulling the strings,” with missions in Paris, New York and Mumbai too.
What you earn. Finishing missions unlocks rewards for Multiplayer and DMZ at launch: eight Base Operators (Cho, Dallas, Luca, Oh-Ji, Kal, Dunn, West and Park), three Double XP Tokens, two Double Weapon XP Tokens, a calling card, a loading screen and an emblem.
DMZ is next. From Tuesday, October 20, the same digital pre-order opens “all of DMZ,” a date Activision confirmed on October 9 and Xbox Wire repeated today. Multiplayer has no early access.
What “standalone” means. In an October 15 post, Activision said the game “will launch as a standalone release. To play the game at launch, players must purchase it separately; it will not be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027.” Game Pass Ultimate keeps Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare III.
What This Means for Players
