Ocarina of Time Remake: How to Get the Biggoron Sword

Link gripping the hilt of the Master Sword in close-up inside the Temple of Time in the Ocarina of Time remake

To get the Biggoron Sword in the Ocarina of Time remake, complete adult Link’s trading sequence: a chain of trades that starts with a Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village and ends with Biggoron on the summit of Death Mountain forging you his sword. It is the strongest blade in the game, two-handed, and it never breaks.

Nintendo has not announced changes to the sequence, so the order below is the one the original used. What the remake does change is how fast Link moves, which matters on the timed deliveries.

The Trading Sequence in Order

# You get From Take it to
1 Pocket Egg Cucco Lady, Kakariko Village Wait for it to hatch
2 Pocket Cucco The egg, after a night passes Talon, asleep in Kakariko, then back to the Cucco Lady
3 Cojiro Cucco Lady The man in the Lost Woods
4 Odd Mushroom Lost Woods Granny’s Potion Shop, Kakariko (timed)
5 Odd Potion Granny The Kokiri girl in the Lost Woods
6 Poacher’s Saw Lost Woods The carpenter boss, Gerudo Valley
7 Broken Goron’s Sword Carpenter boss Biggoron, Death Mountain summit
8 Prescription Biggoron King Zora, Zora’s Domain

Our 1998 Biggoron Sword guide covers the same chain for the original.

The Timed Deliveries

Three trades spoil if you are slow: the Odd Mushroom, the Eyeball Frog and the Eye Drops. In the 1998 game they gave you three, three and four minutes, and warp songs did not work while the clock ran. The timer shows on screen when it starts.

The remake helps in two ways:

  • The dash. Holding the roll button keeps Link running with no stamina meter, which is much quicker than rolling. Our sprint guide covers it.
  • The jump button. Link can hop gaps and ledges on command instead of relying on automatic jumps, which tidies up the run down Death Mountain. Our jump guide covers it.

Epona is still the fastest way across Hyrule Field for the frog run to Lake Hylia; our Epona guide covers getting her.

Tips Before You Start

  • Know the route up Death Mountain. Two deliveries end at the summit; our Death Mountain guide covers the climb.
  • Thaw King Zora if needed. Zora’s Domain is frozen in adult Link’s time. Blue Fire from the Ice Cavern melts the ice around him.
  • Use the Sun’s Song while you wait. The egg needs a night to hatch, and Biggoron takes days to forge the sword. Playing the Sun’s Song passes the time; our time change guide has the notes.
  • Do not buy the Giant’s Knife. Goron City’s shop sells a look-alike two-handed sword that breaks after a few swings.

Is the Biggoron Sword Worth It?

For damage, yes. It hits much harder than the Master Sword and has longer reach. The cost is your shield: as a two-handed sword, it leaves Link unable to block while it is equipped. It is worth switching between the two, keeping the Master Sword for fights where blocking matters. Every remake guide is on our Zelda hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start the Biggoron Sword quest in the Ocarina of Time remake? As adult Link, get the Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village.

Which trades are timed? The Odd Mushroom, the Eyeball Frog and the Eye Drops.

Can you warp during the timed trades? Not in the 1998 game, where warp songs did not work while a delivery timer ran. Plan to make those trips on foot or on Epona.

Does the Biggoron Sword break? No. The Giant’s Knife sold in Goron City breaks; the Biggoron Sword does not.

Can you use a shield with the Biggoron Sword? No. It is a two-handed sword, so Link cannot block while using it.
