To switch between Zois in Inzoi, click the portrait of the household member you want in the family list on the right side of the screen, or press Spacebar to cycle to the next one. Control moves instantly, the Zoi you left keeps doing whatever they were doing, and pressing F pulls the camera onto whoever is now active. This guide covers the portrait list and shortcut, why the spacebar binding might change in a future patch, switching to a different household entirely, and how autonomy settings decide what your other Zois get up to.
Click a portrait or press Spacebar
Your household is shown as a column of portraits along the right edge of the HUD. Clicking one makes that Zoi the active character: their needs, emotions and interaction queue take over the bottom of the screen and any command you give now goes to them. This has worked the same way since the March 2025 Early Access launch, and portraits were improved in v0.9.0 so they update when a Zoi changes outfit (with a further fix in v0.10.3 for portraits that lagged behind the current look).
The keyboard shortcut is Spacebar, which cycles through the household in order. The developer confirmed this binding in a July 2026 development post, where they described the spacebar as “the family-switch key as before”. Community control references such as the Fextralife controls page list the same key.
Switching does not pause the game or cancel the previous Zoi’s actions. If they were cooking, they finish cooking. If you want the switch to land on a specific moment, pause with 0 first, then swap.
Why the shortcut might move
In July 2026 the team announced they are building a jump feature for Zois and were undecided whether jumping should take the spacebar or whether the key should stay on family switching. A week later they said they would go with the community’s request: jump moves to the spacebar and a shortcut key option will let players rebind it, with the change “announced clearly in the patch notes” when it ships.
As of the v0.10.0 update on September 3, 2026, and the hotfixes through v0.10.4, no patch notes mention jumping or a spacebar change, so the current build still switches Zois with Space. If a later update changes that, the fix is the custom keymapping screen added in v0.7.0: press Esc to open the Game Menu and rebind family switching to whatever you like. We will update this guide when the jump patch lands.
Refocus the camera with F
Changing Zois moves control but not always the camera, especially when you have “disengaged” Zoi Focus to roam the lot freely. Press F and the camera snaps to the active Zoi. The v0.10.2 hotfix removed the little “F” prompt that used to appear on portraits while focus was disengaged, but the patch notes are explicit that the key still works.
If you play in shoulder view (Tab toggles between top view and shoulder view), switching Zois drops you behind the new character, and since v0.9.0 every floor of the property stays visible so you are not staring at a ceiling. The v0.5.0 notes also fixed a bug where the shoulder-view radial menu stayed on screen after changing Zois mid-interaction, so update if you see that.
Switching to a different household
Swapping between members of your own household is one thing; playing a different family in the same save is another. Inzoi has a Switch Families function for that, referenced by name in the v0.10.3 hotfix (which fixed relationship scores not showing on hover afterwards). It lives on the city side of the game rather than the HUD: open the city map with M or the Edit City button, find the household you want, and use the switch option there. Player-created households are sorted to the top of the family list since v0.1.5 to make this quicker.
Remember that the family you leave behind becomes NPC-run until you return. The Inzoi guides hub has more on managing multiple households, and if you plan to expand a family first, see how to have a baby.
What the other Zois do while you are away
The Zoi you are not controlling lives autonomously, and how well they do that changed a lot in 2026. The v0.8.0 update (April 2026) let you set specific autonomy behaviours for all Zois, for household members, or for the selected Zoi alone, with each level inheriting from the one above. The v0.10.0 update went further: autonomy is now weighed by time, place and occasion, individual behaviours can be toggled per Zoi, per household or city-wide, and Zois in a group move together to a destination and show an indicator above their head when they are taking part in a group activity. Our news piece on the autonomy and conversation update covers the thinking behind it.
Practical upshot: before you switch away from a Zoi with a job or school day, check their schedule; the game handles it, but only if autonomy for that Zoi is not switched off. One known annoyance the developer acknowledged in late August 2026 is that the emotion background music restarts every time you switch between Zois; they said they are looking at it. And whichever Zoi you end on, save your game manually, because the active Zoi is who the save reopens on.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the shortcut to switch Zois in Inzoi? Spacebar cycles through your household. Clicking a portrait in the right-hand family list picks a specific Zoi.
Does switching Zois cancel what the first Zoi was doing? No. Their queued actions continue and autonomy takes over afterwards. Pause with 0 first if you want to freeze the moment.
Why is the camera not on my new Zoi? Press F. Zoi Focus can be disengaged for free roaming, and F re-engages it on the active character.
Is the spacebar going to become the jump key? The developer said in July 2026 that it will, with a rebind option, but no patch notes through v0.10.4 include the change yet. Use the Esc keymapping screen if a future patch moves it.
Can I switch to a family I did not create? Yes, with the Switch Families function from the city map. Your previous household becomes NPC-controlled until you switch back.
