Inzoi: How to Save Your Game

inZOI official screenshot

To save your game in Inzoi, press Esc to open the game menu, choose the save option, and give the file a name when the game asks for one. Inzoi keeps as many named save files as you care to make, so the safest habit is a fresh name before any big decision and a quick overwrite of your main file at the end of every session. This guide covers the save menu, the load screen and its search box, what the game does automatically (less than you might think), where the files live on disk, and how to protect a save before an update lands.

One correction up front: Inzoi is a Windows and Mac game, and the PlayStation 5 version is now planned for the first half of 2027 per the developer’s May 2026 update. Any advice about a Start or Menu button on console describes a version that does not exist yet.

Saving from the game menu

Press Esc during live play to bring up the menu and pick the save option. The game prompts for a save file name; it will not save an unnamed file, a behaviour the developer confirmed when fixing a bug around it in the March 2025 Creative Studio hotfix. Type something you will recognise later (a household name plus a date works well), confirm, and the save writes in a few seconds.

To overwrite, select an existing file on the save screen instead of typing a new name. To keep a backup, type a new name. There is no meaningful limit on the number of saves, so branch freely before a risky choice, a marriage, a career change or a run-in with the police (our guide on how to go to jail and get out of prison in Inzoi is a good example of a moment worth a spare save).

Since the v0.10.0 update in September 2026, the save and load screens also have a button that opens the save file’s local folder directly, which makes manual backups a two-click job.

Loading and finding a save

Load from the main menu or from the same Esc menu during play. The v0.7.0 update in March 2026 added a search box to the load menu, so if you have dozens of files, type part of the name rather than scrolling. That same update moved several menus to a tabbed layout, so if the load screen looks different from screenshots in older guides, that is why.

Two newer behaviours are worth knowing. When your household takes a vacation with the September 2026 travel features, the game creates a separate save file for the trip so your original city save stays untouched. And loading a save made before the April 2026 career overhaul automatically converts old job data to the new system, per the v0.8.0 notes, so old files remain playable after big updates.

Does Inzoi autosave

Not in the way the 2025 version of this guide claimed. We went through every patch note and developer letter published on Steam since launch, and the only automatic save the studio has ever described is in Build Mode: since the June 2025 update, unsaved changes made while building are stored as a property preset if the game closes unexpectedly, and you can recover them from the preset list under an “Auto Save” filter. That protects your house, not your household’s day.

For live play, treat manual saves as the only safety net. The developer’s own 2026 letters list “save system improvements” among ongoing player requests, so an autosave for gameplay may arrive, but as of the current build we cannot confirm one exists, and you should not count on it. Save before you quit, save before a long time skip, and save before you try anything with consequences.

Steam Cloud and the save folder

The Steam store page lists Steam Cloud support for Inzoi, so on PC your saves sync between machines through Steam as long as cloud sync is enabled for the game in your Steam library properties. Mac App Store players are on a different storefront and should not assume the same sync.

If you want a hand-made backup, use the folder button on the save screen (v0.10.0 or later). Player reports place the Windows saves under the game’s BlueClient folder inside your local AppData directory; the in-game button is the reliable way to get there without hunting. Copy the whole folder somewhere safe before a major update.

Protect your save before a patch

Inzoi is still in Early Access and updates arrive roughly monthly, with hotfixes in between. The developer’s standard advice, repeated in the v0.4.0 notes, is to back up your existing save file and wait for a fix if a new build breaks it, because backward compatibility is attempted but not guaranteed. Two more habits help:

  • Expect mods to be disabled after every patch. The team switches all mods off automatically for stability, and you re-enable them yourself. Save before you re-enable in case one misbehaves.
  • After some updates you need to refresh your properties manually (Game Options > Gameplay > Other, per the v0.5.0 notes) for new lots to appear in an existing save. Save first, refresh, then save again under a new name.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the save button in Inzoi? Press Esc during play and choose the save option from the game menu. The game asks you to name the file.

Does Inzoi have autosave? The only documented autosave is for unsaved Build Mode changes, which are kept as a property preset after a crash. Nothing official describes an autosave for regular play, so save manually.

Can I have multiple saves? Yes. Every save is a named file, and the load menu has had a search box since March 2026 to help you find the one you want.

Does Inzoi support Steam Cloud? The Steam store page lists Steam Cloud, so saves sync through Steam on PC when cloud sync is enabled for the game.

Will my old save work after an update? Usually. The developer syncs old data where it can (career data converted automatically in April 2026, for example) but recommends backing up before updating in case a build breaks compatibility.
