To call someone in Inzoi, open the smartphone with P, pick the Zoi in the Contacts app and choose the call option; your Zoi can dial anyone whose phone number they have asked for and been given. That is a change from the launch build, where phones could text but not call, and where this guide once told you to use the relationship panel instead. Below we cover how to get a number, how calls and incoming calls work now, blocking and unblocking, and the older “come over” routes that still exist for when a call is not enough.
Phone Calls Arrived With the Anniversary Update
The v0.7.0 patch notes from March 26, 2026 added calling outright: “Zois can now call or receive calls from other Zois.” The same patch laid down the rules that still apply:
- A phone number can only be obtained by asking a Zoi for it in conversation. Meeting someone does not add them to the phone automatically.
- Numbers can be blocked or deleted from the Contacts app. A deleted number comes back if you ask for it again, and a blocked Zoi can ask you to unblock them.
- The v0.8.0 update in April 2026 added a flirtatious version of the number request for Zois your Zoi is attracted to, which doubles as a romance opener. Our kissing guide covers what comes after.
The developer said in its first-anniversary post that the call animations and UI were weak and that it was aiming to add proper phone-call motions in the following months. The v0.9.0 update in June 2026 then changed incoming calls to appear on the smartphone itself rather than in a separate pop-up, so if you last played in 2025 the whole flow will look different.
How to Make a Call
- Get the number. Talk to the Zoi in person and choose the ask-for-number conversation option (the flirtatious variant is a romance interaction). The Zoi can refuse if the relationship is poor.
- Press P to open the smartphone, or click the phone icon next to your Zoi’s portrait.
- Open Contacts, select the Zoi and choose to call. Your Zoi plays the call animation on the spot; sitting, lying on the sofa and even sitting on the toilet all have phone animations since v0.7.0.
- The outcome depends on the relationship and on what the other Zoi is doing. Zois at school, at work or asleep can be unavailable, and a Zoi who dislikes yours can decline.
- Incoming calls show on the phone. Answer or ignore them from there.
On a controller the phone is bound to whichever button the control guide shows for the smartphone; the control guide can be opened and closed from the screen since v0.10.0 if you have hidden it.
Texting Instead
Texting has been in the game longer than calling. Since the v0.2.0 update in June 2025 you can start a conversation by sending a text from the Contacts app, and replies vary with the relationship and the recipient’s mood. The v0.8.0 update widened the set of Zois you can message and added more message types. Text messages also carry a lot of the game’s news: acquaintances comment on your job, loan reminders arrive as texts, festival invitations come by text, and in the current build a prom partner who gets replaced is told by text. The developer said in July 2026 that it plans to keep the current text UI and instead make message content reflect personality and relationship better.
Getting a Zoi to Come Over
Sometimes you want the Zoi in the room, not on the line.
- Invite through the relationship panel. The launch build’s route was the two-person icon in the bottom right, a “Call Over” button and a pick from your relationship list; the invitee arrives if free or you get an “unavailable” notice. The panel was visually reorganised in v0.10.0, so the exact button placement may differ from that description, but inviting from the relationship list is still the fallback if a call does not do it.
- Social events. Birthday parties, dates and other events invite guests through the calendar, and since v0.7.0 party interactions let you call other participants over to you within the event.
- Knock on their door. The v0.10.0 update lets Zois knock on another household’s door, and a Zoi with a high friendship, romance or business score can be asked to sleep over.
- Group travel. Zois in a group now walk to a destination together, so if you want company on the way to school or a shop, group up first.
