Fishing in Inzoi starts with a fishing rod in your Zoi’s inventory: walk to a river bank, beach or pier, click the water, and pick the fishing interaction to cast. It is a proper skill with rod tiers, rare catches and a collection log, not just an idle animation, and it was added in the August 2025 update, so any guide written before then was describing something that did not exist. Below we cover how to get a rod, where to fish in each city, how the Fishing skill and rod quality work, and what to do with what you catch.
Getting a Rod and Casting
Fishing arrived in v0.3.0 on August 20, 2025, alongside swimming, farming and mining. The patch notes describe it plainly: “Zois can fish in rivers and the ocean, and using higher-quality rods increases the chances of catching rare fish.” At the time it required starting a new save; any save started since then has it.
- Buy a rod. Rods are sold at fishing supply stores. Player reports place one on the Bliss Bay beachfront (the same building sells surfboards) and another on the main island of Cahaya, and describe rod tiers running from wooden up through metal and jewel rods. The store stock is small and easy to miss on the shelves.
- Equip nothing. Since v0.4.0, the highest-grade tool you own is selected automatically when you fish.
- Cast. Stand at the water’s edge, click the water and choose the fishing interaction. A v0.5.0 fix mentions attempting to fish “5 times in a row,” which matches player reports of a multi-cast option that keeps your Zoi casting without re-clicking.
- Bait is optional. A guide on the official forum says bait costs a few Mew per cast and mainly cuts down on junk catches rather than raising the top-end rarity; we have not confirmed the number in the notes.
Everything you buy goes through the same shop flow, which our guide on how to buy things in Inzoi explains.
Where to Fish in Each City
The v0.3.0 notes say rivers and the ocean both work. Player-maintained location lists on the official forum break that down as follows, and we present them as reports rather than confirmed data:
- Dowon: the river through Harang River Park. Freshwater species, and reportedly the best-value pool for a low-level angler.
- Bliss Bay: the ocean beach and pier. Saltwater species; players describe it as a weaker earner.
- Cahaya: beach fishing, a freshwater park, and boat fishing. Boat fishing is a confirmed mode (a v0.4.3 hotfix fixed high-level Zois failing at it), and a v0.3.5 hotfix widened the zones where the rare Whale Shark can be caught in Cahaya. Cahaya requires the Island Getaway DLC.
Time of day matters for some species. During the October 2025 Halloween event, five glowing ghost fish appeared only between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM; that event has ended, but it shows the system tracks the clock. Getting between spots is quicker once you know how to drive in Inzoi.
The Fishing Skill and Rare Catches
Fishing is a standard skill on the Zoi’s skill list. Higher levels raise the success rate and open up rarer fish, and rod quality raises rare odds on top of that. Player testing on the official forum puts the climb from level 0 to 10 at a long grind (roughly a full in-game week of casting), with the top rod tiers unlocking through an angler ambition, so plan on it being a slow burn.
A few systems around it, all from official patch notes:
- Protected species. Some fish are protected. Releasing them is free; keeping them earns a fine (v0.4.0 fixed fines being charged even after a release).
- Spoilage. Caught fish spoil over time, and the remaining time shows on the item. Spoiled fish cannot go in tanks.
- Family Collection Log. Every species your household catches is recorded here, alongside crops, gems and tools.
- Aquariums. Fish can be displayed in fish tanks. Use the “Add Fish” interaction on the tank; tank sizes limit what fits.
Fishing is calm, but it is not a mood fix on its own. If your Zoi is stressed, how to meditate in Inzoi is the direct route.
What to Do With Your Catch
Fish can be sold for Mew, displayed in tanks, or kept for the collection. The developer said in June 2026 that ingredients from farming and fishing would become usable in recipes as part of the cooking overhaul; the September 2026 v0.10.0 notes reworked cooking (higher-quality ranges cook faster, unattended cooking can start fires) without naming fish as an ingredient, so treat fish-based cooking as something to check in your recipe list rather than a certainty.
The PlayStation 5 version (now planned for the first half of 2027) is getting fishing built around DualSense features, per the developer’s May 2026 update. On PC the interaction is entirely mouse-driven.
Our Inzoi guides hub covers the rest of the Cahaya activities, including how to surf.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I buy a fishing rod in Inzoi? At a fishing supply store. Player reports point to the beachfront shop in Bliss Bay and a store on Cahaya’s main island; check the shop filter on the map in your city.
Can I fish without buying a rod? No. There is no rod-rental interaction in the patch notes, and the game auto-selects the best rod you own, which means you need to own one.
Why did my Zoi get fined for a fish? It was a protected species. Release protected fish instead of keeping them.
Do fish go bad? Yes. Fish have a spoil timer visible on the item, and spoiled fish cannot be placed in aquariums.
Does fishing work in every city? Rivers and the ocean both count, so Dowon, Bliss Bay and Cahaya all have spots. Boat fishing is a Cahaya activity.
