Inzoi: How to Get and Use Umbrellas

To get an umbrella in Inzoi, place an umbrella stand in your home through Build Mode, click it and pick a style; your Zoi then opens the umbrella on their own whenever it rains. Rain is no longer cosmetic, either: since late 2025 a Zoi left outside in the rain without one can catch a cold, and heavy rain now arrives as a city-wide disaster. This guide covers how to get an umbrella, how Zois use it, the rain rules verified against official patch notes, and what to do when your Zoi refuses to open one.

How to Get an Umbrella

The umbrella stand method that players worked out in the first weeks of Early Access is still the way to do it, and it has not appeared in any patch note as removed or replaced. Per early player reports and community build guides:

  1. Open Build Mode from the HUD on the lot you want to edit.
  2. Search for the umbrella stand in the item catalog and place it indoors, near the front door of your Zoi’s home or workplace.
  3. Click the stand in Live Mode and choose an umbrella. Colors and styles are selectable from the stand, and you can come back to swap them any time.

Once a Zoi has taken an umbrella they keep it as an equipped item rather than something in the bag. That distinction became official in the v0.4.5 hotfix, which “fixed an issue where umbrellas could be stored in the inventory”. If you have an umbrella sitting in a Zoi’s bag on an old save, that is the bug, not a feature, and it will not re-equip from there.

The 2025 version of this guide mentioned umbrellas turning up in convenience stores. Nothing in the patch notes since then supports a purchasable umbrella, so we treat the stand as the only reliable source. Our guide on how to buy things in Inzoi covers Build Mode purchases and Meow, the currency.

How Zois Use Umbrellas

You do not trigger the umbrella manually. Once one is equipped:

  • The Zoi opens it automatically when rain starts and puts it away when the sky clears. Sunshine never triggers it.
  • Changing outfits, including the automatic switch into weather-appropriate clothing, can drop the umbrella. If that happens, click the stand again. Our guide on how to change outfits and get clothes explains how automatic outfit changes work on the current build.
  • Since the v0.10.4 hotfix in September 2026, Zois also open umbrellas during heavy rain. Before that hotfix they would use one in ordinary rain but not in a storm, which is the most common “my Zoi ignores the umbrella” complaint from the summer.
  • The same hotfix fixed an item vanishing when you removed it from the bag while holding an umbrella, so juggling groceries and an umbrella is safe again.

An umbrella occupies a hand. The developer’s 2026 roadmap lists moving umbrellas to the left hand “reducing awkward situations and allowing them to carry more items while multitasking” as a planned fundamentals fix, so expect that behavior to keep improving.

Why Rain Matters Now: Colds and Weather Impact

At launch, getting wet did nothing. That changed in two steps:

  • The v0.5.0 update (December 2025) made Zois who stay in the rain for over an hour catch a cold.
  • Players found that harsh, and the v0.6.0 mini update (February 2026) extended the time needed to catch a cold outdoors in the rain without an umbrella from one hour to six hours.

So on the current build a Zoi without an umbrella can still get sick, but only after a long stretch outside. An umbrella stops the timer entirely. If your Zoi does catch a cold, medicine can now be taken standing up (a v0.7.0 change), so it is a nuisance rather than a crisis.

If you would rather the weather left your Zois alone, the v0.8.0 update added a setting: “Weather impact on Zois can be adjusted in game options.” Turning it down is the umbrella-free way to ignore rain.

Heavy Rain as a Disaster

The v0.3.0 update in August 2025 introduced natural disasters, and heavy rain is one of them alongside dust storms and heat waves. These affect the whole city, not just your lot. Two things worth knowing:

  • Heavy rain can damage property. The v0.6.1 hotfix set the compensation for heavy rain or heat wave damage at 200 Mew, so the game does pay out afterwards.
  • A v0.9.2 hotfix reduced how often disasters cancel school schedules.

The v0.3.0 notes also list a controlDisaster cheat that triggers heavy rain instantly, useful for testing whether the umbrella actually opens.

Tips for Umbrella Management

  • One stand per lot your Zoi spends time on, including a business lot they run.
  • Re-check after every outfit change. Situational looks (added in v0.8.0) swap clothing automatically, and that swap is the usual reason an umbrella vanishes.
  • Choose by color. Umbrellas have no effect beyond keeping the cold timer off.
  • Long outdoor sessions need one. A Zoi with an umbrella can stay at the water without the cold timer; see how to fish in Inzoi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do umbrellas do anything in Inzoi? Yes, since December 2025. A Zoi outdoors in the rain without an umbrella catches a cold after six hours on the current build (it was one hour when the rule was introduced).

Can I buy an umbrella from a store? The patch notes do not list umbrellas as a store item. Place an umbrella stand through Build Mode and take one from it.

Why is my Zoi not using the umbrella in heavy rain? Update the game. The v0.10.4 hotfix in September 2026 fixed Zois refusing to use umbrellas when heavy rain occurred.

Why is the umbrella in my Zoi’s bag? That was a bug fixed in v0.4.5. Umbrellas are equipped from the stand, not carried as inventory items, so take a fresh one from the stand.

Can I turn off weather effects instead? Yes. Since v0.8.0 the game options include a setting for how much weather affects Zois.
